Bobby Ross (1982–1986)After the season, Ross resigned as head coach. He expressed frustration over the university's failure to improve Byrd Stadium and its associated facilities.

Joe Krivak (1987–1991)In 1989, Maryland tied Joe Paterno's 13th-ranked Penn State. existence.[7] The following season, the Terrapins beat 25th-ranked West Virginia and upset 8th-ranked Virginia. Maryland received a bid to the Independence Bowl and tied Louisiana Tech in what would be their only postseason appearance during this period.[7] Athletic director Andy Geiger rewarded Krivak with a five-year contract extension,[69] but the 1991 season unraveled after a rash of injuries,[70] and Maryland had its worst finish in two decades with a 2–9 mark.[7] After public criticism from several players, Krivak felt he lost credibility as the head coach and resigned on December 6.

Mark Duffner (1992-1996) The team showed moderate improvement the next two years, and in 1995 finished 6–5, which was the first winning record since 1990.[78] However, Maryland backslid in 1996 with a 5–6 record and a struggling offense.[79] Duffner was fired after the season,[72] having accumulated a combined record of 20–35

Ron Vanderlinden (1997-2000)Vanderlinden was granted a two-year contract extension.[87] In 2000, Maryland again fell short of a winning season and bowl game. The Terrapins entered their season closer with a 5–5 record, and again fell, this time in a rout by 24th-ranked Georgia Tech. Vanderlinden was fired the following day

Ralph Friedgen (2001–2010)Maryland rebounded in 2010 to finish with a 9–4 record, including a win in the Military Bowl,[111] and ranked 23rd in the AP Poll.[112] The ACC named Friedgen Coach of the Year, while freshman quarterback Danny O'Brien became the first Terrapin ever named ACC Rookie of the Year.[113] Citing lack of fan support, the athletic department bought out the final year of Friedgen's contract for $2 million

Randy Edsall (2011–2015)Edsall's 2014 Terps finished their regular season with a 7–5 record, comprising a 4–4 record in Big Ten Conference play that put them third in the Big Ten East Division, their Inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference . Maryland ended its season at the Foster Farms Bowl, where it lost to Stanford.

On October 11, 2015, Edsall was relieved of his duties with offensive coordinator Mike Locksley named as the interim head coach for the rest of the 2015 season

Welcome to the fun of being a UMD guy lol. This is why some of us pay so much attention to b-ball, soccer, and lacrosse.

I believe Bear Bryant left Maryland on the way to Kentucky. But, I don't think he was fired.

IIRC coach Bryant left because of disagreements with the president (Harry Byrd I think)over who had "control" of the program.

He left Kentucky, by Bear's retelling, when he won the SEC in football and Rupp won the conference in basketball, and Rupp got a Cadillac as a gift from the donors and he got a watch.

It's not your bad. I understood what you meant and accepted it since you are a Maryland guy. I just found that in the light of your remarks that he must have felt twice burned and cited Bear's own version of Kentucky in response.

Both were awful and made horrible in-game decisions.

The difference was that the team quit under Diaco. They lost all faith in the coaching staff after some really stupid decisions. PP was bad, but the team always played hard.

Thank you for a reasonable post involving UConn. For some reason, UConn receives an incredible amount of hate on these boards. Maybe it's the basketball success or the failures in football ... I don't know why it happens.
