I'm not sure why exactly, although I usually root for the underdog when I don't have a skin. Still happy for JMU though.
I think that this is the repercussion from the elitist attitude that they showed while we were there.
I would love to get them back on the schedule (once we are firmly established at QB) so that we could pound them again. They always seem to be convinced that they would beat us in a hypothetical game, but unfortunately for them, it never seems to translate into the actual games.
That said, I'm happy for them.

Competition increases for visibility, recruits, and media dollars within the finite Virginia pie.
Additionally, if JMU was in our conference then we would have to compete for state media coverage as well. Those football games that JMU and ODU play at the same time would be problematic outside of the core markets.
For example, NOVA and Roanoke: which game to be carried on both radio and television, where otherwise ODU would be covered in both?
I think the point is moot, as there will likely be no openings until at least 2025/26.
The Cox bill further complicates the process.
With the convo delay, and the recent coaching hire, JMU has seemingly decided to de emphasize MBB; not a strategy for moving up.
While the Monarchs get superb coverage in Hampton Roads, its rather lacking in Richmond and minuscule in points west and in Nova. I would argue that having JMU in the conference would increase interest in CUSA for those regions and as a result ODU. I can see TV coverage being split slightly, but half of crap is still crap. Streaming is the future for the G5.
And I don't think the Monarchs are on the radio in Nova. They are only on in Roanoke and Richmond because a generous donor paid for it.

Agreed. ODU still has many years of "Norfolk commuter school" to overcome, in academics and athletics alike, and that doesn't just happen overnight. VCU and George Mason have been to Final Fours and VCU has been to six straight NCAA tournaments, but you're not going to find regular coverage from in-house reporters outside of their respective home markets. ODU having FBS football should help, but at the same time, there's only but so many alumni in the rest of the state and it'll take sustained success at FBS to even begin to think about getting bandwagoners. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
JMU is not a dominant presence in any market outside the Shenandoah Valley, but they probably fly the flag in D.C. and Richmond better than ODU, and that's not nothing.

"Split slightly" could mean tens of thousands in ad revenue, not to mention that we need every trickle of exposure we can get.
One need only look at how hard UVA tried to block VT from the ACC.
In any event, as I stated, nothing is happening before 2025 anyway.

Yup. In Richmond, they are only talked about if they have to be. Meaning they are playing vcu, Richmond, jmu, or William and Mary. They obviously talk about Virginia and Va tech. Hell they talk more about vmi here than they do odu lol

Yes, I don't understand why this topic is garnering so many responses. If I need to know anything about jmu's championship game, I will definitely go to their board. Time to give this a rest.

RE: FCS Championship Game: JMU vs Youngstown State
My right hand hovers the mouse over a topic I care nothing about. The urge is strong. Quickly, divert your eyes to the ad. But there it is. A thread about a topic I don't care about. Laughing at me. Taunting. Daring me to click.
Can't avoid it any longer. I click. It's everything I thought it would be and more. Details about a topic I wasn't interested in and it's waisted time. Those fleeting seconds, gone forever.
As I ponder what could have been, what should have been. My mortality staring me back in the face as text brilliantly crafted by those that care.
I too craft a response. I feel dirty but I must do it. I must ask why. Why am I now not just reading, wasting, but responding. So philanthropic I am, breathing life into this topic that should not be.
Congrats to JMU on a FCS national championship.

I don't know about you guys, but I thought I watched the NCAA College Football Championship tonight between Alabama and Clemson.
Did JMU get some "participation" award in something? If so, I'm really happy for them. They must have received trophies and their parents must be so proud!

Yeah, it really was. Especially rooting against Alabama. But great game of football. Glad I tuned in, I almost didn't.

Bo Scarborough's injury was huge. He is almost as good as Ray Lawry.

Anyone that was a member of the old CAA Zone boards could hardly be a fan of JMU and their arrogant and elitist posturing.
Further, had we stayed we likely would have developed a VCU like hate rivalry with the Duke's football (even then their mbb was irrelevant and had been since Lefty ).
As an ODU supporter, being a fan of JMU is tantamount to being a fan of VCU.

Great work, Dukes! I hope your football team enjoys their medals!
