A coach using a school as a "stepping Stone" is not all bad. Usually, he is leaving the school is better shape than when he arrived. Otherwise, he would not be getting a P5 gig.

UH is an example. Briles, Sumlin, and Herman each left it in better shape. IMO, Sumlin took the UH job with A&M in mind and Herman took it with UT in mind. That is the ultimate in "stepping Stone" actions. Sumlin had been an assistant at A&M as Herman had been at UT. So, "stepping Stones" works both ways.

UH is in better shape than when any one of them arrived. The problem is the next HC may not continue the upward trend.

Many schools use P5 schools by taking assistants. UH took Briles from TT, Sumlin from OU, and Herman from OSU. OSU's offense suffered after Herman left.

WMU has had very good recruiting for several years. It is now a better situation for a young coach than it was before Fleck. That MAY mean it gets a good coach to continue the trend.

Great points. Cincinnati has gone through this recently with Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly and Butch Jones before we hired the previously retired in place (RIP) coach.
