RE: WTF Josh
Josh was bad for Memphis and potentially is good 4 Georgia Tech. I wouldn't trade him for Tubby or a 15lb bag of sand.

Gotta give it up for Josh's Jackets. Nice win. Maybe it's a one-off thing, maybe not. But clearly it was time for he and Memphis to part ways. It's Tubbyville now!

The guys I met at the Gator Bowl are happy with him, so I'm just happy that all parties got what they wanted in the deal. Had some great scotch in celebration of both their wins yesterday from various alums. I did not make it until midnight.

He won some games here. But only two in the clutch. At utep due to Joe Jackson and St Mays in the dance.

I'm pretty sure the 2nd OK State game was pretty clutch along with many others. Player problems and his own pig headedness forced his departure. Certainly caused a small minority here to run off a bunch of folks. Some are still obsessed with him.

The 4 Kings team was a good one, that was the end. Josh sold out for that run and ended up with an 8 seed and manhandled by UVa. That team could have been a really good one.

If any of the freshmen on the four kings outside of Austin actually improved they would have been fine...But Kuran, Powell, Crawford and King all came back ineffective and we lost Dom

Josh finally hired. Former head coach to help him. If he had done the same after Wilson left he would have had more wins.

It will be a bad win for Georgia Tech in the long run... It was a FLUKE... Those boys played their Super Bowl against UNC.

I was at the Gator Bowl. I can only imagine that McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta was about 60-70% UNC fans for that game. Because most of the GT fans wanting to see a game today were in Jacksonville.

If you didn't look at the logo on the court and only looked at the stands, it looked like a Carolina home game.

Yep, GT is not much of a BB school in terms of fan support. Back in Metro days we could sit anywhere when Memphis played games at GT. Even during Cremins days (the best BB GT has ever seen), I could get tickets at face value for Duke & UNC, just wanting to see a #1 play. And UGA home games are even worse, very mediocre BB support. Especially amazing given the high level of high school BB played around Atlanta. Sort of reminds me of OM support, Auburn support, MSU support, even UF support for BB around the SEC.

We lost there when ranked #1 during the Dana Kirk era.

Yep - that would have been thanks to Steph Curry's daddy.

UNC and Duke fans are always well represented when they play at GT. It's the only way some of those fans can ever get a ticket to see their teams live. Still, because GT football was playing in a bowl at the same time, this game was exceptionally Carolina blue. I think GT is a bit more into basketball than UGA (even after Hewitt and Gregory), but it's still a distant second place to football with them. It's also a school where everybody has to take calculus and there are no easy majors, so they've somewhat tempered their expectations of success accordingly, IMO.

RE: WTF Josh
FWIW-KenPoms biggest upsets through end of year:

December 31: #154 Georgia Tech 75, #4 North Carolina 63 (6.8%) It’s rare that you get a home upset in this section, but the Yellow Jackets were pretty large underdogs against UNC even while enjoying whatever home-court advantage currently exists in college hoops. The Tar Heels scored just 0.81 points per possession, which was easily their worst output of the season, and their most pathetic performance over their last 63 games against Division-I teams. We should acknowledge Josh Pastner’s ability to coach up a defense. Tech ranks 49th in adjusted defensive efficiency at the moment, continuing a trend for Pastner where his teams are solid on the defensive end regardless of talent level.
