Rumor: OK/OK State to SEC?

Yes, this is Greg Swaim and even he admits it is just rumors. But says Oklahoma and Oklahoma State could move to the SEC shifting Alabama and Auburn to the SEC East.

Swaim does realize that if 2 teams join the west, only 1 team would shift to the east to get the 8/8 split??

Swaim has slung as much of this crap as the Dude of WV, Toxedo Yoda or any of the other expansionistas out there.

That being said, I would not be surprised if this happened. Oklahoma has made their intentions pretty clear and the SEC money would be hard to turn down.

If this were to happen all heck would break loose and the other P5 conferences would reciprocate with adding members.

You would have Missouri, ou, ok state go to the west with Alabama and auburn go to the east. I think it makes sense for everybody although I think ou going to the PAC 12 with 5 other big 12 schools is their best move. The sec offer could be leverage for ou.

Ou, ok state, Missouri, Arkansas

Lsu, Texas a&m, ole miss, miss state

Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Alabama

Uf, Uga, s car, aub

You could also go to 4 pods and rotate them so you keep 7-1 schedule

I am pretty sure its implied that Missouri would move to the west so that both Bama and Auburn could move to the east together.

moving Missouri to the west makes sense too if ok and okst are joining.

It would give the SEC the opportunity to put Mizzou in the west where they belong.

I think you are giving too much credit to a person with 2 degrees from Oklahoma State.

That means Auburn would be the one to move East and the SEC would have to go to 9 conf games with 2 permanent opponents (at least for some teams). Alabama needs to play Tennessee and Auburn in this scenario.

I do wonder what Texas would do if ou and ok state did go to the sec.

1) join the PAC 12 with Texas tech, tcu and Houston
2) join the big 10 with Kansas
3) join the sec with Kansas or Tulane
4) bring in smu, Houston, byu football only to the big 12 and go Indy in football

It would be this, as others have already said:

West - OU, OK St, Mizzou, Ark, TA&M, LSU, Miss, Miss St
East - Kentucky, Vandy, Tenn, Bama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, USC

It would create a situation where you have the Old SEC and the New SEC.

RE: Rumor: OK/OK State to SEC?
With ACC (including Notre Dame) locked up ... I think this is the best the Big Ten could do in response:

Big Ten West - Minn, Wisc, Iowa, NW, Iowa St, Nebraska, Ill, Purdue
Big Ten East - UConn, Rutgers, Maryland, Penn St, Ohio St, Michigan, Mich St, Indiana

UConn - because they're basically the same type of add as Maryland: strong bball, average football, good facilities, good population/market, gives the Eastern football powers another conf win in football, while being competitive in other sports, and adds another hockey program

Iowa St - I picked them over Kansas simply because when/if the Oklahoma's leave the Big XII, the Iowa politicians will put as much pressure on and call in as many favors as possible to get the other major university in the state into a P5 conf. Likewise, it would be difficult to imagine Kansas getting in while K-State does not. Good basketball, and good support for football, are the main attractions. Also an AAU university, but that doesn't seem to matter as much now with Nebraska.

Perhaps he's assuming Mizzou would shift to the West.

Can't believe the SEC would want 2 schools in OK though.

The big 10 could add Kansas and Colorado if texas wouldn't join.

E: UM, MSU, IU, Pur, OSU, PSU, Rut, Mar
W: NW, ILL, Wis, MIN, IO, KAN, Neb, Col

Guess the pac 12 could add New Mexico or UNR if they wanted another state flagship to get back to 12

It's not going to happen. What will happen is a new version of the SWC. This will happen when they decide to expand the playoffs or move to bowl games being mini-tournaments.

Why would Colorado move from the P12 to B10? Trading access to California and Arizona for access to Illinois and Wisconsin doesn't seem like much of an improvement.

If the B10 actually had the ability to add who they wanted they would not have settled for Rutgers and MD, they would have added ND, Texas, UNC, and UVa to go to 16 and then looked at MD, and Mizzou if they wanted 18. Rutgers is a 7th choice no matter what is made of the B10 network's revenue model.

If the SEC had the actual ability to add who they wanted they would have added Texas and UNC to go to 14 and to go to 16 they would added Oklahoma and Virginia Tech. If they wanted to go to 18 it would TAMU and Maryland.

If the ACC had the ability to add who they wanted after MD's Chancellor bolted them away, MD would have been replaced by Penn State and for 16 that would be either Tennessee, Georgia, or Florida. 17 and 18 would be one of those three or LSU, or Indiana.

The "push" is greater than the "pull" in P-5 realignment. The push is hating your conference, hating one or two conference members that run the conference, or the foreseen collapse of your conference.
