WKU and ODU
Both would be good adds for The American. Both are capable of winning the American in football.

I'm not sure Houston has the stomach for them. They're kinda full after feasting on the Cardinals this year.

I don't think they're good institutional fits. Rice is about the only one left in CUSA that I think they'd take.
If the AAC lost 2 schools, I think they'd stay at 10.

It's an attempt to troll. Which I find puzzling given Louisville spent all of one year in The American.

Sports other football Witchita State (Navy) VCU(Army)

The AAC adds whomever ESPN tells them to add.
I doubt WKU or ODU are among the options.

So you want us to add two schools no one earth outside their towns care about. No one turns the TV on to watch, even in their best season. They don't even sell out their undersized stadiums. Yeah good advice.

ODU does sell out their undersized stadium, but the American is full unless you're talking about BYU or Army.

RE: WKU and ODU
Old Dominion was on AAC's top list on their radar in case the Big 12 took several members of the Big 12. The Pecking orders are this.
ODU
Southern Miss.
UMass.
Nobody else came up on the radar on that list. I started a thread on the AAC expansion rumor several months ago while the rumors of the Big 12 was going to expand.

I don't know about Old Dominion, but Western Kentucky is making a name for themselves, probably more so than any other G5 school not named Houston or Boise State

If you were adding WKU, it would be foolish to add them as football-only. Not nearly to the same degree of success, but they are more like UConn in that historically, their success is in basketball (again not to UConn;s degree, but just pointing out the similarity) as they were a football 1AA successful team, but have only been in FBS I think less than a decade.

We're still putting the MBB pieces together and FB still loses big too often. Olympic sports are ok I guess. Still work to be done before we're ready

I wouldn't include UMass there. I think the FBS conferences are hoping and wishing they would just go away.

UConn. is lobbying for UMass. Inclusion because it would give them a travel partner, and they would pair up nicely instead of UConn. be an outlier.
Old Dominion is like a bridge towards the southern schools and pair up with East Carolina.
Southern Miss. as an old C-USA foe with the rest of the AAC.

The MAC should add these two getting them about even with the MWC.

RE: WKU and ODU
I'm not sure that there is really a scenario out there the MAC makes a foray into New England. In theory, adding UConn, UMass, Temple, and Cincy would be great but the expansion schools are the ones that have all the value and right now the American is a better fit for them, save UMass who would love to be in the American but the feeling is not exactly mutual.

RE: WKU and ODU
WKU popped up at the top of the AAC replacement candidate list.
1) Strength of FB/BB.
2) Ability to fit into the CUSA West division geographically.

WKU just lost thier coach---sometimes that makes a big difference. Sometimes not. Only time will tell.

RE: WKU and ODU
Western Kentucky is legit, they've done nothing but grow and build since entering FBS. ODU may be a bit too young of a program but definitely have the opportunity to have success.

The MAC is not looking to expand for the sake of expansion, and certainly not in terms of "we want to get into this region, but with what school?" ...
... but if the "right school" asked, that would define the region that the move would go.
But the "right school" would almost always be a school that wouldn't come knocking, asking to join the MAC. It's the same old story ... the list of schools that would consider joining a conference and the list of schools that would upgrade the conference (in the eyes of the schools in the conference) are two different lists without any overlap.
The scenario where UConn moves to the Big East despite losing a spot in the AAC for their Football, and comes knocking, that's among the more plausible that could be put out there, and it'd still be very, very long odds against it happening.
