Can't complain about the schedule if you don't schedule teams from good conferences. And can't complain about the refs because I have seen all those refs in our building before.

That's my whole point! Those are the same refs that have been screwing UC for years! And I never blamed this loss on the refs. I'm talking about getting screwed by them on calls for years. That's a fact. And I didn't say not to schedule good teams. Just stay away from the BE...cause they suck! There's a lot of other good teams in other conferences.

I remember him in. He was subbed out for Quadri, and the announcers commented how he had just come in just a possession or two before.

Those two little private schools make more TV revenue from their basketball program then we do with both football and basketball. AAC - the league that keeps on failing.

All in all this game doesn't mean much. The way college basketball is set up the regular season doesn't mean much at all as long as you win enough games to get to the tournament.
5 foul differential with 3 of UCs fouls coming with less than a minute to go. The fouls were called pretty evenly.
And people need to stop claiming teams shoot unreal percentages against us. Maybe it has something to do with the D they are playing. If you leave guys open they will hit shots. Yes Butler banked in some shots but I've also watched games where our bearcats have thrown up shots that have banked in

If you think fair officiating can be determined by the differential, then you'd be wrong.

1. The refs sucked
2. We sucked
These are not mutually exclusive and I don't know what good it does to talk about 1 and breeze over 2. 2 is what you have some control over.
BTW I feel like I need to preface this with saying I'm normally a Cronin defender but this is one area I just don't agree with.

Because he knows that's enough to keep his seat on the gravy train. I want more. After 10 years the fans should expect more. For what he is being paid, the University should demand more.

RE: Butler game thread
I was at the game, so I didn't get the benefit of replays, but I didn't think the refs were that bad. Stephens (the African American one) and O'Connell (the white-haired guy) are both big time officials, so it's not like they assigned a bunch of jokers.
I'm as big a Cronin supporter as there is, but this team is too talented to play a junk defense and that basic hero-ball offense. The passing is all just to get the ball to a different player so that he can go one-on-one, it's rarely to get a guy in a better position. And that D is so overly complex, with guys have to call out when they are switching and when they are following their man to the other side, it leaves gaping holes and mismatches and Butler exploited it perfectly. UC was bigger, stronger, faster, and more athletic at every position--and they will be against most teams--why would you not just play tough man-to-man and take that advantage? I don't get it at all.

I had a family thing going on so I was in and out watching it. But it sure seemed to me that every time a UC tried to drive the lane he did so with at least one defender's hand impeding him. And just about every time Washington or Clark got the ball in the post there were two forearms pushing their back.

Same here I was the upper section 305, and of there was fouling by Butler, not getting called it might have been using the body to push us around some. Mick said all week the team knew what was coming. Butler does a better job of running offense and has better shooters.

RE: Butler game thread
I was there and honestly the big game routine of this team so far looks very familiar. Evans had to come out from the tip and play aggressively in the half court for them to win, especially with Washington in foul trouble. He waits for the game to come to him(which you can do against lessor opponents), and he's basically a non factor. You can't be worried about missing shots, et al. I'll give Caupain credit as he at least plays aggressively in the half court from the tip. Often Evans is not even looking for a shot until late in the game in the half court. He's a sophmore now, and i can only laugh about the nba talk. He ended up with 14 pts yesterday, but he had 4 with 4 or 5 minutes left and then he starts shooting and driving. He should get to the line a lot, but he can't start being aggressive at the end of the game. That's on him, not the coaching staff. Scorers have little conscience, and you'll see that next year with Broome. Evans needs to start adopting that mindset or this team will be similar to last years.

So how do we explain Butler from the Horizon League in back-to back-national championship games in 2010 and 2011 before they ever cashed in upon entering the (new) Big East?
Revenue matters. But on the floor I see enough talent for UC to be winning more of these games. I don't think that happens against the top 25 without a more set offensive game plan designed to leverage the strengths of this squad. In the absence of that UC basketball has hit a glass ceiling--good, but not quite great.
A made final shot by Iowa State as time expired would have meant an 0 and 4 record against these two quality programs the past two seasons. Respectable, competitive performances but not much of a threat for a deep run in March.

Yes I agree UC had better athletes line up and beat them man to man this match up has them losing guys and giving up way too many open 3's

Seems true. Case in point Iowa State game. Hell even the Rhode Island game where UC lost you couldn't complain about the officiating.
Revisit the Iowa State boards from right after our game and there are strings of comments that the reason they lost was officiating. I didn't like the way today's game was called either. But that hardly changes the fact that Washington was shooting outside the arc like a guard, Evans was mostly just dribbling and passing it out there and Johnson was back to missing outside and at the rim. Had Caupain not played way above his season average, this would have been a 20 point loss.
I still have high hope for this team but an ineffective offense remains the Achilles heel of this program year after year. Butler has some real basketball players out there and they run a disciplined offense and make free throws. They're the real deal so it's not a terrible loss.
My wife walked in the room at one point and asked me why they have players that can score and we don't. Still a fair question. Add Butler to the list of area programs that have zipped by UC in the passing lane. I've been around long enough to believe we should get better players than that little private school in Indy...or the one on Victory Parkway for that matter.
Passed us by? Dude we've made a sweet 16 more recently than them for goodness sakes.

You wouldn't trade a Sweet 16 for two consecutive appearances in the national championship game in the past six years? Butler has built a nationally respected program this past decade.

Good observation by Mo Egger...
But the game on Saturday was maybe a little too big for some of those guys, and I'm still trying to figure out why, with about ten minutes to go and Butler leading by four, Justin Jenifer, Tre Scott, Jarron Cumberland, and Quadri Moore were in the game along with Kevin Johnson.
