He also did it without many other playmakers on offense to help get him open. The QB situation wasn't near what Westbrook enjoyed.

Westbrook- 2016 Season
REC YDS TD
74 1465 16

Zay Jones. 2016 Season
REC YDS TD
158 1746. 8

Westbrook had more meaningful receptions (averaged 20 yds per catch...and every 4.6 catch went for a TD for this P5 Conf Champ).

Jones had more dink/dunk non-meaningful receptions (11 yds per catch and every 20th catch went for a TD for this 3-9 (1-7) team.

Jones had a great year...but sadly, not many of his receptions went for scores nor did most of them go for a lot of yardage either while his team had a terrible season.

Jones did more with less and its not debatable. Dede is surrounded by better athletes, a run game, a solid Oline and established QB. His supporting cast is infinitely better than Zays. He also didn't face nearly the # of quality defenses that Zay did. Everyone knew Zay was the threat on the team and he still produced.

Total P5 bull crap. He had double the stats of Westbrook!! It wasn't even close.

They might as well just kick us out. Every thing in the media and college football is geared for the P5.

I hate it. I hate it for Zay who deserves better. He won the award and they gave it to Westbrook because of who he plays for.

Well to be devil's advocate you could say Westbrook also played better competition more consistently.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but I think OU is in the B12.

I can just as easily BOLD the receptions difference (more than double) and more yardage.

Lets talk about competition. Zay had 22 catches vs USC, an SEC team going to a bowl and on the road.

Westbrook had 4 catches for 33 yards vs Louisiana-Monroe....

He had nowhere near the playmakers around him or the QB that Westbrook enjoyed. And he STILL put up unbelievable numbers. Meaningful catches? They are different types of players. Zay plays in the slot more and didn't have the offensive line to get deep.

It's a joke and you know it

RE: Zay Jones Got Robbed!
Zay is a model student athlete. 3.56 GPA graduated 4 years and an outstanding person. One of the most consistent and durable WR I've ever seen. Total catch record a testament to that. You have to be on the field a long period of time playing at a high level to catch 399 balls no matter what level you are.

He caught 158 balls this season rarely single covered. He was the focus of every defensive coordinator. Double teams did limit his average per catch. 3 offensive coordinators and 5 different QB's in 4 years. Accomplished multiple NCAA records facing all these challenges.

This wasn't well thought out by the committee and the award simply isn't credible. Zay Jones is clearly the best WR in FBS. Based on all factors could be argued best all time. It was an honor to watch him all 4 years.

This article is chock full of fun facts. One of which is quoted as of 11/22/16 as

"Eighty-five of his catches have resulted in first downs and 36 have gone for 15 or more yards, both best in the FBS."

Which completely negates everything you just said about "non-meaningful receptions" or "nor did most of them go for a lot of yardage either".

It certainly was bias. Jones deserved it.

That said, when DeAngelo Williams was not even invited to New York I quit paying attention to awards. We (non P5) mean anything to the rest of the football world.

The committee should be forced to remove all schools' names and vote strictly on the stats. No way this dude wouldn't have won if he was playing for OU.

Well said, great post. It all comes to P5 vs G5, and until there's more inclusion in college football; we will never get to compete on an even basis.
