Baylor had to take major gambles to get where they were. He'll be asked to clean up the mess and the program will drop off. About the time he is ready to compete, the boosters will want him out. Baylor is a terrible job right now.

So what if he fails? He'll be a rich failure and can always crawl back to a G5 spot for great money and fail again.

See how it works?

Who has done that? Tubbs....maybe.. help me out.

Who has done that?

Not exactly that, but Lane Kiffin and Les Miles are about to do something similar.

Terry Bowden made $ at Auburn and is now making decent money at Akron.

They are talking about Al Golden being in consideration at Temple again.

Jeff Tedford, formerly of Cal, just got hired at Fresno State.

Solich has done just fine at Ohio after Nebraska.

Etc.

I've heard that agents typically push these guys to strike while the iron is hot.

I think Brohm should have waited for a better gig than Purdue.

I think some folks are afraid to wait too long and miss out if they unexpectedly have a bad season.

That would suck to the ninth degree. However, MN seems like a coach that would be a better fit out West/West Coast.

We should be the odds on favorite to win the conference next year, South Florida and Navy not withstanding.

Calkins and Parrish were talking about this potentially happening (Norvell to UT next year). I'd hate to see that happen.

Butch Jones landing Trey Smith yesterday may have salvaged another couple years, though.

I actually enjoy Calkins articles in the CA, so-so on his radio show, but I listen. Parrish is just a f'ing idiot. Nuff said about that clown.

He was making $2.5M. $1.5M was an old contract we tore up (1 of 2)

Any early favorites for a replacement?

Any early favorites for a replacement?

Penn State OC Joe Moorhead is the name a lot of people are throwing out.

Some semblance of a list:

Todd Bowles- Temple Football alum and Jets' HC
Kirk Ciarrocca- Temple alum and WMU OC (would really love to get him as our OC)
Joe Moorhead- Penn State OC
Matt Canada- Pitt OC
Mike Yurcich- oSu OC with D2 experience in PA both coaching and playing
Neal Brown- Troy HC
Scott Satterfield- App State HC
Jason Candle- Toledo HC
KC Keeler- SHSU HC and PA native
Geoff Collins- Florida DC
Don Brown- Michigan DC
Lincoln Riley- OU OC
Mike Pettine- Local guy, former Browns HC
Charlie Strong
Les Miles

Wasn't there talk about Missouri head coaching opening last year? I just don't get the Baylor move. Something must have been going on we aren't privy to.

I really think Butch Jones would have to go .500 or worse to get fired.

I don't think he's on that hot of a seat. Dooley left Tennessee in bad shape and they were supposedly ravaged by injuries to close this season.

Yes, Baylor's AD was the one who tried to hire him at Missouri.

Many boosters are tired of Butch's act. He's talked a good game - they want to see him playing for an SEC championship. If he misses it next year, it's going to be hot.

Trey was his to lose. He gains little by landing him, but would have lost big if he missed him.

Hiring Trey's mom is an indication of how important it was to land him.
