RE: I'm rooting for PJ
I had three one on one meetings with Jeff Compher and have met twice one on one with STF.

You don't know what you're talking about in the least bit. But by all means keep going, it's my entertainment oh senior wise one.

Anyway, good recruiter, so-so coach, not a great person.
Pass.
Sorry you only have the attention span and comprehension level for only a tweet.
In a nutshell, you obviously never dealt with Fleck directly (or even Compher, Doeren, or Carey), and lack knowledge of what happened. Surprised to see you acknowledge his recruiting and not discredit his coaching. If you would have dealt personally with Fleck, you might come to learn he's at the very least a good person, but most definitely, a genuine Huskie. Have a Merry Christmas.

I sat next to PJ on a flight to California when he was at NIU, kind of a douche.

There is nothing more off-putting when someone pulls out the old man card to delegitimize someone else's view points. DPN's views can be dismissed from their content alone, not because someone who he is arguing with claims to be older.

UIhuskie, people have every right to dislike Fleck even though it pisses you off. His incredibly selfish self-promotion can be construed as negative to those who are involved in team sports where team comes before self. You have no right, no matter how old you are, to dismiss someone's dislike of Fleck. So just save your venting, your farts smell like everyone else. Get over yourself for the love of god.

Sitting next to someone on one flight certainly makes you an expert and I'm guessing your three one-on-ones with Compher convinced you that everyone who has ever questioned Compher's abilities is out of line.

MD, please show me exactly where I played "the old man card?" Read other posts and you'll see there are others who acknowledge friction between Fleck and Doeren factoring into what happened; read other posts on how many on this board were not impressed with Compher. This thread was titled "I'm rooting for PJ" and individuals like DPN and yourself choose to dislike Fleck and/or his WMU program and you're lecturing me on the right to dislike? If you both weren't so blinded by your prejudices you'd see that Fleck built a team concept that the Kalamazoo community, WMU students, Bronco fans and, most importantly, team members bought into. It's the same thing I was personally able to witness Joe Novak do from year one when he had to run off some of Sadler's sad sacks. My mistake for giving a Huskie alum credit for his achievements. Exactly what makes either of you more qualified to know what it takes to build a team atmosphere? Answer: absolutely nothing.
What I need to get over is wasting time trying to discuss anything with DPN or you, especially since as noted, those posts can be dismissed with content alone. Go Huskies and for tonight, Row The Boat.

FoxSports: "P.J. Fleck is the right man to lead the Ducks." Good read here. At first, I didn't think PJ was a serious candidate at Oregon. Not so sure about that now!

I don't see it either but if Phil Knight loves PJ it will happen.

This guy is such a douche. I know several HS coaches who went to clinics with PJ and loved the guy. Obviously, PJ thought you were a jack wagon and wasn't nice to you. And you have no idea what you're talking about because after Santa led a charge to overcome a 21-0 deficit and threw for 250 yards in his first start Dogsh*t North said Santa is "clearly" not the guy. What a moron!

THIS!!!

+1 04-cheers

I am happy for WMU and for PJ Fleck. What a season! To go 13-0 is amazing. PJ is a Huskie (yes sometimes his weirdness gets to me too but he is a HUSKIE!) and I wish him even more success in the future.

RE: I'm rooting for PJ
In my time at NIU i worked with PJ as both a player and a coach on a daily basis for years. Everybody loved that guy. You wont find one guy that played with or coached with or hell coached him that wont the say the same. He was the main reason we saw so much growth from Matt Simon (who coaches for him now) & Britt Davis. He's a standup guy, and he embodied everything that NIU Football was and The Hard Way culture that started under Novak. I get some fans dont like his theatrics and are pissed about the offensive coordinator thing, but for the people that actually know him love the guy. I think that speaks volumes. Soon he will be out of the MAC and all the hate for PJ will die down

It's a double edged sword in some ways though. Look what he's done for WMU. That school had literally zero football history and national exposure and now they have Gameday on campus and all over the news. Promoting is one of the biggest parts of the jobs these days. It is what it is...

While football isn't steeped in historic tradition as much as say baseball, there are still a few archetypal behaviors some people expect. One being that head coaches present themselves as this sort of mature, self-deferencing, poised, father figure...aka Saban, Schembechler, Bryant, etc. This could be a generational thing(g-damn millennial/boomers!) were PJ is seen as the sign of things to come as far as shameless, self promoting coaches, and hence people fear a loss of the "tradition". Also, it enhances an already touchy issue of coach loyalty to their current program. If you're all about you, you're not all about the school and you'll bail in a heartbeat for the next better offer(as all coaches would, but we like to hear and see a false sense of security from our leader). And while I am 100% sure PJ is not 1 iota more cocky and narcissistic than Saban, the expectation is to not display it publicly.

It's really is just perception. PJ is probably no different than other coaches. But he does present himself differently. The only coach I could recall that was a shameless self promoter while also being succesful(Harbough is in the team photo) is Ditka. And like Fleck, he was loved for it by some, but was also, and still, is despised for it by many.

Yes, but at the end of the day, it's all about his players and how they respond to him. That's all that matters. Regardless if opposing fans don't like it, his players run through walls for him and recruits want to play for him. That's what makes him and Saban and others successful. Players buy in. If they all players considered these guys shameless self promoters and that they didn't care about the players and were only in for themselves this wouldn't even be a conversation because they wouldn't win. Love him or hate him that's the bottom line.

I'll be curious to see the players reactions if Fleck leaves before the Cotton bowl. I understand coaches do this, but to me it looks like Fleck has used the "family/love you/we are in this together" angle more than most coaches. That can certainly work to obtain results, but will it leave players disgruntled, feeling scammed when you leave them before their biggest game in their lives

Do you really love someone if you'd leave them on the eve of the biggest night in their life so you can get a promotion? Eventually your words will ring hollow And it will sound like a con.

I actually 100% agree w that, as that's how you'd think a lot of these kids would think. However, what was interesting was how many of NIU's former players were genuinely happy for Coach Kill when he got the Minny job. A lot of fans were pissed about he left and bolted right after the MAC Championship game and didn't coach the bowl game, yet all the players still loved the guy. Who knows though, every situation is different.

The difference to me is coach Kill was more of that traditionally coach I mentioned earlier. I can't speak to what Kill's level of personal relationships were with his players, but I'd think players would be more understanding of such a move when the coach keeps the relationships at a player/coach level. PJ seems to take it beyond that to very personal levels. Like that boss who wants to be your buddy and your boss. That usually ends ugly.

Kill and Doeren left immediately after the MACC. PJ is on ESPN talking about his great players and how humble they are to be playing in the cotton bowl. He would look really bad if he left now.

Because they already had their jobs lined up and had interviewed before the MACC. PJ didn't do that. Of course he has to be talking like he's the HC of WMU until he isnt

True. and Doeren is the most similar situation to Fleck, but Doeren didn't know NIU would be going to the Orange Bowl. Fleck knew they had a good chance and is waiting for best situation. I think it would sting more after they got their Cotton Bowl invite.
