HBU is #306 in Pomeroy. It's now 50-48. Perhaps Coach 12-20 has an answer after 3 years of beat downs.

Marquez with a "two-handed stout" ... then steal and layup (missed the FT).

Solid student turnout. I guess Bailiff decision didn't stop them from supporting the basketball team.

Hard fowls, several Owls (Letcher-Ellis, Koulachov) angry. No need to risk injury against an RPI like HBU. Better Southland teams would bring as many fans.

Cross-town rivalry is a good thing.

RE: Men's Basketball vs HBU - Game thread
So we're now 6-1. Best start in a long time. In 2004-2005 we started 5-1, then lost in a close game to #11 UConn (@ Tudor...well Autry at that time). Those were the "glory" days (or maybe I"m just saying that b/c I was a student at the time).

ESPN's records only got back to 2001-2002 as far as I can tell, and we haven't started 6-1 in any of those years. Not saying this is our best team (although it could be...we'll see)...but for people who doubt Rhoades has us moving in the right direction.....I think you at least have to give him that we're headed upward. Fast enough? TBD. But I'll take progress for now.

We didn't lose to HBU at home. The hex is dispelled. If you can't see the good in that, see a doctor.

Is Coach 12-20 any relation to Coach 6-1?

Seriously, I'm not suggesting we'll continue to win at an 85% rate this season. But so far, we're doing what we're supposed to be doing. And it's not unreasonable to expect the team to continue to improve even as the level of competition steps up.

Rice started 6-0 in 76-77 and then lost 9 in a row. Finished the season 9-18. Before that was a 10-0 start in 55-56. Have had several 7-2 or 8-2 starts in more recent years after we became decent in the early 90's. Scheduling cupcakes helps pad the nonconference record.
