That would allow all other bowl games to lock in their teams no later than Sunday. There would just be two bowl games, Cotton Bowl and one other, where one side of the game would be listed as "WMU or Navy" depending on the outcome of Army-Navy.

The solution is simple, but the CFP committee is too reactive and disorganized to make it happen.
Well thought out and reasonable response

Its not that simple, besides, Army is 5-6 and could become bowl eligible and also is messing us bowls and 5-7 APR teams for that matter.

That's probably the most reasonable option. The only other option is to just announce the ranking and hope Navy doesn't get upset by Army. Its a risk---but it used to be standard operating procedure for most major bowls to issue and accept invites to schools who still had several games left in the season back before the BCS---so it wouldnt be all that unprecedented. Since it doesnt affect the actual playoff---the fall out if Navy were to lose to Army is pretty limited.

Army is actually 6-5 with 2 FCS wins. BUT, even if they lose to Navy, they are the #1 APR team, and would be going bowling regardless.

But AFTER all 6-6 teams with one FCS or less wins go.

Yes, and again why having the game so late screws everyone else.

Miami, I understand what you are saying, but what if an scenario happens in which Navy is unbeaten/one loss and has a very legit chance at an Access spot and the committee needs to use the Army-Navy game to weight against other teams?

-What if Army is Very bad that year and beats Navy, but Navy was given the Access Spot already before said game? It would be a meltdown on Boards like this(The AAC Fanboys would spin it every way they could).

-Force them to play the game during other CCG's/ Beginning of the Season? That will never fly with anyone.

-Tell Navy to forgo the AAC title Game in that scenario? That could backfire bigtime.

There is no easy way around this because of the tradition of this game. I don't like it either, but out of respect, it needs to stay where it is....

Great tradition, true, but playing the game the week after champ game week only started about 2008 so not that long ago. Really is not part of the tradition.

It's not a nightmare. Calm down. The MAC will be fine if WMU takes care of business. Yes, even if there is a delay.

Ranking #s are not uniform distance measurements. It's just where they place in comparison to ALL teams around them in a ranking.

#1 can be very distant from #2... #2 could have a mild distance from #3, and #3 & #4 could be on each other like two guys in a bath house.

Navy jumped up in the RANKING in comparison to rankable teams, as the 2 of the 3 between Navy & WMU rightfully fell. WMU beat a tougher opponent. If anything, WMU's weight from the week prior went up a bit in comparison to Navy. Stanford still won, and is still below WMU, and still above Navy in RANKING.

Navy beating Temple Will Gain a bit on WMU, just as WMU beating Toledo instead of SMU *actually* made WMU distance themselves a bit on Navy (despite ranking # difference, which is not The measurement). Will Navy jump them? No. Not unless Navy blows them out by 40pts and WMU plays piss poor and has to go to 2OT to beat Ohio who wasn't even trying to win -- but even then it'd be pretty darn controversial.

I've heard this point before.

But I'm afraid it's much more difficult putting the cat back in the bag and than letting it out.

Quite possibly. But I don't see PJ letting his team get distracted.

Also, if WMU loses, even with a loss by Navy to Army, they would still be better than any of the other champions. San Diego St/Wyoming saw to that last weekend with their putrid performances.

Sorry, I disagree with you a Army loss would be horrible for Navy and probably drop them out. Again, this game has not always been played on this date. I like the idea of Army/Navy to open the season on the Saturday before Labor Day weekend. Make it the official Kick Off to the FBS Season with all the fanfare. Now with the CFP, it is crazy to have the game after the final polls.

In theory, there's no reason the game couldn't be moved back to Week 14. But I think honoring tradition means that they get to have a special week to themselves.

There is reason, the AAC championship game which Navy is playing in this weekend. How would they play Temple and Army in the same day?

Why does the entire bowl system, schools, players, and fans have to suffer from some stupid Navy rule just because Navy DEMANDS to want to be special and play a game WAY past a reasonable time frame for bowl????

If Navy wants to be special and DEMAND to play Army after everybody else then they should have to be willing to accept they can be left behind!

I'd like to book flights and hotel to Miami's bowl game but might have to wait THREE days before game day to do so?? (Camellia Bowl Dec. 17 and committee may not decide until Dec. 14th per article) The other bowls will suffer in attendance and teams wont know their opponent to game plan and schools and fans pay extra for multiple bowls because Navy DEMANDS to be special and we OK'd a rule? No they need to accept that they wanted this and may get left out because of .

Navy has put sweat equity into the sport and helped shape college football into what it is today. Miami-Ohio and WMU have added nothing to CFB in 100+ years.

Tell Navy that they can't go to the Access Bowl, I doubt they care. Army-Navy will be played last every year and nothing will change that.

Don't make yourself look uninformed. Miami has done a lot. I think the last time Navy made the top 10 was 1963. Miami has done it twice since then. Look up "cradle of coaches."

You shut your mouth and honor these teams. They are the best of us and never forget that. Some of these young men God forbid may not even be living a year from protecting us so your whiny behind can sit on the coach complaining about nothing truly important. Shhh!05-nono

They are being used a funding mechanism to maximize the athletic revenue of the academies. Declining ratings meant they had to move the date to maximize revenue.

They aren't being honored by playing the second Saturday they are being used to generate revenue in a way that it is detrimental to the system.

Very true!

Brings back to the point of: probably few people thought it would matter, as they didn't expect Navy to be competing for AAC title often if ever.

Army is 6-5 and while they don't have 5 FBS wins, they are guaranteed a bowl slot. They are first on the list after bowl eligible teams and there will be at least 4 fewer eligible teams than bowl slots. Army, Hawaii, North Texas and Mississippi St. are all guaranteed slots no matter what happens this weekend or the next.
