To put it in perspective UConn will have WBB games with better ratings than some OU football games.
The Big 12 had a pretty good bowl season this year and had the best defenses by far during bowl season. I was under the impression that the PAC and SEC were down this season from how things ended. Even the mighty B1G had a poor finish to the season.
The PAC has what the Big 12 schools need and the Big 12 has what the PAC needs.
All of the conference networks use the cable revenue formula. As long as Cincinnati remains in Ohio, they have a value of $2-3 million per month to any network except the BTN. The B1G already has a school in Ohio so adding a 2nd school would not affect network revenue.
It doesn't matter if people watch or not. I don't watch the Oprah network but it is still included in my cable bill.

I am talking about content people actually watch. You would be shocked with some of the UConn WBB TV ratings. That along with BB make them much more valuable than the Cinci's and Houstons of the world who really have no content people watch.
BYU and UConn are both quite frankly made for conference networks. Both have lots of non FB content that for one reason or another people will actually watch on TV. BYU has loyal fans who will watch everything from BB to WVB and UConn has a national following for WBB along with BB and even other sports like Hockey and Soccer.
The reality is Houston and cincy can pull good TV ratings when they are highly ranked in football but for average seasons the TV numbers are not good and there is nothing beyond football that people actually watch on TV. Things like WBB at Cinci have attendance in the hundreds so nobody is tuning in to watch. UConn WBB plays in front of 10k to nearly 20k in some venues so you can bet that there are plenty of TV viewers. Same story with BYU, even for things like WVB.
Both of those schools provide valuable content for T1/2 deals as well as t-3 content for conference networks. Plugging in a bunch of BYU and UConn content in the spring works great. Plugging in a bunch of Houston and Cinci content and nobody will be watching.
That is the difference in BYU/UConn and Cinci/Houston IMO.

Like a Big Bang.
Things have gone completely silent in the Big 12. Boren has shut his mounth.
The Big 12 CCG deal still has not been finalized and we are only months away from that game at this point.
Essentially since the PAC and Big 12 had meetings last fall things have gone very quiet. I have a feeling they decided to order some more information on possible scenarios of Big 12 content on PACN. That information is likely starting to come back at this point.
I think Boise State should go Independent, and do get a same type of deal to play 5 or 6 games with PAC 12 teams and some with Big 12 teams and get a deal as part of inclusion as the Notre Dame deal with the ACC for football. They have their own tv contract with ESPN, and ESPN could get value in getting a PAC 12 or Big 12 team playing on the Blue Smurf Turf. Boise State always play great exciting games against P5 teams which they are rewarded with large tv viewership. Boise State is the only team that was much better than TCU and Utah outside of the P5 out of the G6 conferences at the time. They deserve to be a P5 team.

Boise State could go Independent but they aren't getting a ND slate of games deal.
If they can talk a few other MWC teams that Independence is better it might work for them.

I think Boise is in about as good of a situation as they can be in. They usually get a good p-5 game or two each season. They are in contention for a conference title nearly every year. Get in the Fiesta bowl every few years. And on top of that get a sweetheart deal for TV money. They simply don't have the fan support or finances like BYU does which allows them to go indy.
But I do see your point about more flexibility and more p-5 games. I'm just afraid they will lose a few of those most seasons and not be ranked as high as they get to beating up on the Wyoming's of the world. They do not have the money or location that TCU does which allows them to compete at a p-5 level every week.

RE: Rumor on Big12 Expansion
Here is an update to this story. The Big12 decided not to expand based. They thanked the applicants for their efforts but elected to go in a different direction. If anything changes, I’ll give more info.
