SB doesn't deserve that. It's CCG weekend for a reason: everyone else is playing a CCG. Fall in line.

It's college football. Deserve isn't part of the equation. Getting two games on championship Saturday.

Yep, two games on ESPN2. Artificial, because everyone else other than Big 12 is playing a CCG. Even Big12 doesn't schedule all their teams a game on CCG week. That would mean you know that you're an afterthought in the division.
It'll be good for SB and Big 12 to fall in line.

Like I said, Sun Belt has already approved a title game for 2018 pitting the champs of an east and west division
Presumably (because not official yet)
East: App State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Troy
West: AState, ULM, Louisiana Lafayette, Texas State and South Alabama.
But if ESPN wants to juice the deal to show a couple filler games on championship Saturday, bet the Sun Belt listens.

But seriously, if Sun Belt games are up against the SECCG and then the ACC and B1G games, who will be watching?

Enough to make it worth ESPN's time I'm sure if it were to happen. We will know in a few weeks when the numbers come in.

Except it wouldn't be possible to schedule regular season games and have a CCG, during CCG week. So, no idea what you're talking about.

I don't think there is a mandate from the NCAA stating that everyone must play their CCG on the same day. I actually would like for them to play it on a different day. It's already annoying that so many games you want to watch are played at the same time already.

"Worth ESPN time's" could just mean "instead of women's basketball or replaying the 2016 poker championships for the 7th time".

How well they played? Why, because they scored first? They had seven first downs the rest of the game after the first drive. Have we set the bar this low?

An Artificial game that is still going to garner viewers on a major network. The Sun Belt gets 2 Conference games per year on ESPN2 right now. Sure, we get a ton on ESPNU and all the other channels, but only two games on one of the major networks.
If ESPN was able to guarantee multiple telecasts on a major network that Saturday, even if it is opposite all the other title games, the Sun Belt would be smart to listen. The limited number of games on a major ESPN network means that the same Sun Belt programs are on TV every week. Arkansas State will pick up its 7th telecast on either ESPN2 or ESPNU with its game at Texas State that week. Texas State will get its first.
This isn't about falling in line. It's about an opportunity to get the league on television as much as possible.

Right, but even the worst drawing ESPN2 game is going to get about 300K viewers. A Championship Game might literally get the exact same viewership, and if that's the case, 2 games of inventory is better than 1.

RE: Will Sun Belt rethink the title game?
I don't see much value in a COG in a 10 team conference. What's the use of playing a conference schedule only to possibly have to beat a team again to be the champion? How can a team be conf champion by beating a team they previously lost to and have a .500 record with? If A State goes undefeated and Troy & App wind up tied for 2nd with 1 loss, Troy wins the tiebreaker and plays A State in the COG. Troy wins the game and is the conference champion even though the teams are 1-1 against each other. Why should Troy's win be more important than A State's win? The only way I favor a COG is if teams from opposing divisons do not play. That winner would truly be a conference champion.

Sounds like you are against rematches. But why? Rematches can and do occur in every major sport I can think of.
Heck, in college basketball, you can play a conference mate four times - twice in your conference regular season, again in the conference tournament, and yet again in the NCAA tournament. You can win the first three and lose the last, and nobody will say "unfair!". Nobody seems to complain, so why does it matter in college football?
And just considering the regular season: What if Maryland and Ohio State play twice (basketball) and Ohio State wins both, but Maryland finishes with a conference record of 14-6 and Ohio State finishes 13-7, do you have a problem with Maryland finishing ahead of them in the conference?
The CCG is about money and exposure anyway, not competitive correctness.

The basketball/football comparison is not valid. The nature of the two sports are completely different. I agree that COG games are not about anything other than exposure and $'s.

I doubt the SBC drops the plan for a CCG in '18, but I hope they plan for a few TV games next year and maybe get a few big matchups on CCG weekend in '17, maybe the AState-ULL or App vs Troy or Ga Southern.
Honestly, with 10 teams I'd rather play 9 games and no CCG if it weren't for the loss of a 4th OOC game.

That's why conferences need to be limited to 9 or two division with a total of 18.

Could they be hoping for Chattanooga and Missouri State agrees to join the SBC in the next few years? Missouri State would be a good travel partner for football with AState.
Chattanooga bring SBC back into Tennessee's tv market.

Okay....going to the SEC then...what if UGA beats Auburn in during the season, but Auburn still wins the West and UGA wins the East? That sets up a CCG rematch. This can happen in every conference with a CCG.

I know what the two C's are for in the usual abbreviation. What's the 'O' for in "COG"?
