I never place any posters (even Tigerscane) on ignore but the OP's constant drivel is insane. This thread doesn't even make sense...seems like griping for griping's sake. My Ignore List shall have its first entrant.

padding a post count ...is that something we should try to do? Honestly, I never really thought about it. What benefits are there to padding a post count?

RE: Interesting Stat by KenPom
This was a Twitter post by KenPom on an interesting stagety decision by coaches. There was never ANY negative connotation towards Tubby regarding this; just that he was at the far end of one spectrum and was specifically mentioned in article by Pomeroy.
If I wanted to criticize Tubby, I would not do it like this. You will surely know when I do IF you don't have me on ignore for a statistics article. Not that I care; I have quite a few on ignore for continued personal insults which are really unnecessary amongst grown ups.

Seems it's always been a pretty standard rule for most coaches outside of fluke times (ie your PG who rarely ever gets more than 3 in a whole game, but by fluke ends up with 2 early. may keep playing him a bunch, and only get cautious if #3 comes up)
Not standard at all: number 1 coach has players with 2 fouls utilizing 55% of PT. huge difference. I'm a stats guy-doesn't imply one is better than other. For instance, notice that Pastner and Coach K are almost identical in this stat:
http://kenpom.com/blog/foul-trouble-data-by-coach/
"Among gentlemen that have coached in all seven seasons of the sample, Tubby Smith has been the most protective of starters with two fouls. He’s let a starter play just 64 of a possible 1,310 foul-troubled minutes, or 4.9% of the time. Memphis fans, you’ve been warned."
sounds to me like Tubby tends to have a well balanced team on the floor as a standard and is able to protect his players who have 2 early fouls from really getting into trouble at the risk of the 3rd.
But, yes it is standard. You can't take an extreme outlier and use that as proof. Look at the stats. Only 28.7% of coaches let 2-foul players play more than 25% of possible minutes, so over 71% majorly limit playing time after the 2nd foul. When you jump up to 1/3 of possible playing time it gets even worse, with only 12.5% of coaches practice this philosophy.
Most coaches in the country take out his player that gets 2 fouls in the first half. Now, many scenarios happen after that to determine the likelihood of them coming back in (bench depth, position, score, fouls of other teammates, etc...) So honestly this stat is completely meaningless without further comparison and analysis.
Just glancing at the list I can draw my own reasoning why there's such disparity in this singular stat. Seems like a great deal of low-major teams (for a lack of a better descriptor) up at the top. Leads me to believe it has more to do with quality of players and bench depth.
I like stats too, but many can't stand on their own while keeping their relevance. This is one of them. I like kenpom, does great work.

I thought sitting a guy with 2 fouls in the first half was basketball 101, unless that coach is Opie.

That's very true.
I wonder if "bad things about Tubby Smith" is in his Google search history.

Lamar beat Oregon State today. We should have waited out the scandal. Lesson learned.

Do you think Pastner has a statistician pull all of Coach K's stats so he can mimic him as close as possible. If so it's a good thing that he doesn't smoke or partake in carbonated drinks. He's going to have to coach until he is 82 to catch that pesky 1,045 total wins stat (provided he can average 20 wins a year).

Does he mimic coach k on 4 and 5 star recruits transferring out?

Yeah, Lamar beat Oregon State, and this isn't any Oregon State. Oregon State was an NCAAT team last season.
Lamar finished last in the Southland last season but it was also Price's first year there. So we'll see.
