Bleacher Report has us in the Boca Raton Bowl vs. SMU

CBS in the Hawaii Bowl vs. Air Force. They have UTEP in the Boca Raton Bowl (who need to win out to reach 6-6).

I think Boca Raton vs a Sun Belt/AAC opponent is probable...
We are #75 in Massey Index (a slow slog up these and Sagarin ratings...analytics don't love ODU)
looking at teams within 5+/- of us in Massey
Syracuse (#74 6th in ACC 4-5) needs 2 wins NCState, FSU and @Pitt...uh no
New Mexico (#73 lets not play them at their place, 5th in Mountain West 6-3) @Utah State, @Colo State and Wyoming...they get 1
Notre Dame (#76 3-6) Army VT @USC, they get 1
MTSU (#72 6-3) CUSA rival, won't happen
Boston College (#78, 4-5, 12th ACC) @FSU UConn @Wake Forest, could win 2
Ohio (#71, 2nd MAC, 7-3) @CMU Akron (both on Tuesdays nights, I hate MACtion), they will; be MAC runner-up, better bowl for them
Arkansas State (#79, 4-4, 3rd Sun Belt) NewMexState, @Troy, @ULL, @texas State, maybe 2 wins?

my guess: UCF (#61, 5-4 6th AAC) Cincinnati, Tulsa @USF, they win 1 play us in Boca

I don't foresee SMU being bowl eligible. They have four wins and have ECU on the road with South Florida and Navy at home left to play. I can imagine them beating ECU, but as bad a year as ECU is having, a win against the Pirates in Greenville is no guarantee for the Mustangs. I don't think they can beat either South Florida or Navy, even playing them at home. Hard to see two wins for the Ponies in these three games.

If ODU officials have any say in it, I'm sure they'll choose a bowl not on the 17th. But it sounds like C-USA's process for assigning teams to bowls involves negotiations with the bowl's. They give the conference champ it's choice, then allocate teams based on geography, and the bowl's preferences. So I gotta think the Boca Raton bowl is our most likely destination.
