We just have to buck up and plan to fly. When CUSA had 6 tie ins, they were all flights so there is no reason to be surprised now. It's time to show that we belong in bowl games or not. I hope we have a strong number wherever we are sent.
A flight to and lodging at a place like Boca Raton, or New Orleans would cost far less than the Bahamas; not to mention the passport, which already excludes many. The Bahamas Bowl would probably be accessible to 90% fewer ODU fans than the Military Bowl, and far less accessible than either Boca or New Orleans. I'm sure most of our fans would love to fly to the Bahamas for a bowl, but there are realities at play.
I understand that this could likely be a recurring scenario, but it sure would be nice for our first bowl to be somewhat easier to attend.

Unfortunately, in terms of bowls, you have to prove it before they hand you anything. I agree the Military bowl would be ideal and I think it is still in play. If it wasn't, we would already be announced for Bahamas.
I'm not anti-Bahamas bc I would have a blast, but I do worry that our turnout would suck and the bowls will consider that next year.
I have no clue on costs, but Atlantis is always advertising cheap deals during the winter months. It would not surprise me if it is a lot cheaper than people realize. It's basically flying to Miami.

When I looked over the weekend, the cheapest rooms at Atlantis were over $300 a night the week before Christmas.
Flights (from Newark) were about the same as a cross country domestic flight ($400-500)

Atlantis is very expensive once you get there. It would be better if all-inclusive but that's not how they roll. And the rest of Nassau, while warm, isn't really much of a beach/tourist environment. It's a little more small urban with lots of shopping.
I hope we get Annapolis because I would love for ODU fans to show up in droves. This is one of those BIG moments in our program's history. But as paintedblue2 said, "there are realities at play" and the holidays will take a large number of fans out of the mix. I just hope that whomever we play can look across and say, "Wow, that ODU fanbase travels better than we thought".

You are absolutely right about the costs once you get there. No doubt about it. There are all inclusive packages for that week at $300 per person per night. (3 stay minimum.
That actually isn't a bad deal.

Yeah, my mom has been to Atlantis a couple times and she said they usually get there and then run to the local grocery store and make sandwiches for lunch and such and splurge on dinner one or 2 nights.

If it is the Bahamas how about a charter flight thru ODAF down for the game in the morning and back after the game. Flight is not that long and you are home for Christmas Eve. I am going for the game not for my Bahamas Vacation.

Maybe it's a good thing we're going to the Bahama Bowl and found out early.

TL;DR If Navy wins AAC title game the bowl system could be paralyzed WRT G-5 bowls as the Army/Navy game is 6 days after Bowl Selection Sunday.
