I'd like to see them look at Tee Martin or maybe Mel Tucker.

Mentioned Martin a couple times. Think he would be a home run hire.

I like him a lot. He's moved up the ladder consistently and had a great year as USCs OC

Could that have to do with the President maybe?

Does the Board of Trustees have to meet to approve a football coach? Seems like the AD has a budget and is able to make a hire...but what do I know.

Yeah if the BOT has to meet every time a coach is hired we'd never hire anyone.

Yes they have to approve that type of deal. We're talking a couple million in pay, benefits, bonuses and perks.

I don't buy that. I haven't heard any other schools waiting on BOTs to approve announcements. And if you have your guy now why do you wait till Sunday to meet when something could totally F up the deal.

RE: The List
^^ let me clarify: it is my understanding the BOT usually gives authority in principal prior to the hire. The actual meeting is just a formality.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I would think that would have more to do with a potential President hire.

Considering the amount of money a HC is paid, I would thing the board gets to give their stamp of approval before it is finalized.

This may be the most highly compensated individual at UC so I suspect the board weighs in. And I don't think the presidential search would require a called meeting on a Sunday this close to the holidays. So this may mean an announcement for the Sunday evening news cycle.

Yeah I suppose, but can't they still announce it instead of having to wait several days after a decision is made for the BOT to gather? You just don't hear this kind of stuff at other schools. Things seem to get done more on the fly to where you don't have to wait days to go through all the channels. I think I just have to get used to UC doing things quite a bit differently than a lot of other programs.

I was just reading an article about the Oregon Board of Trustees meeting this morning at 8am to approve the Taggart's contract. I'm guess UC's meeting is something similar.

RE: The List
Something i've meant to mention here a few times for those that continually knock Fickell for being a Co-DC.
Just for those that aren't familiar with how Urban operates - he has never had an issue with setting up his staff with Co-coordinators. Charlie Strong, after being the sole DC became Co-DC with Greg Mattison. They were the masterminds behind that D that absolutely dismantled OSU in the Fiesta Bowl in '06.
He's also essentially had Co-OCs at UF. I follow Gator football quite extensively, so I see no need for shade on Fickell for his position as a co-DC. It was ok when Strong became a Co-DC. He's still the quality recruiter, even better moral compass, and solid defensive mind guy that he is.
Some people have no problem contributing to the greater good. It worked extrodinarially well for all involved at UF. Mattison went off to the Ravens, Strong took over sole control and the Gators won another 'chip on the strength of a great defense.
Trust the process, ya'll

I agree, it's not a big deal at all. Co-DC's are a way to pay a guy more $$$, thus attracting better members to the staff.

Really? I figured all they needed was Phil Knight to sign off on it.
