RE: 2016 college hockey thread
This isn't going to be our year, we have an extremely young team and it shows. I guess we're a football school now.

We finally have a decent mix of young talent and veteran leadership. I wouldn't be surprised to see us make the NCAAs and make a little noise. Big weekend on the road vs #1 UMD, we'll see where we are after that one.

Slow your roll. Last year around this time, we swept #1 Omaha and the season was looking promising - and then we imploded.
For now, call me cautiously optimistic and encouraged by the start.

I refuse to slow my roll

#10 WMU faces Miami for 2 on the road this weekend. This is an important series for both teams with only 5 points separating 3rd place (WMU) and 7th place (Miami). Each game is worth 3 points.

Miami has been playing much better over the last month, we will see if it is enough to make a difference against a Western team having a very strong year.

RE: 2016 college hockey thread
Miami outshot like crazy last night, but we hang on for a 4-3 win after being up three in the third.
Now at 22 in the Pairwise (16 make the NCAA tourney), we really need a road sweep in our next series at St. Cloud if we want a chance at an at large bid. We're only two points down from 4th place, which would earn us a home series in the conference tourney.

I can't believe we lost that game last night. Hats off to Miami capitalizing when they needed to but you don't win many when you're out shot 45 to 19. Penalty shot and our poor pk on the night decided it. We're still in excellent shape for the ncaa tournament sitting at #4 in the pairwise rankings.

RE: 2016 college hockey thread
Western was clearly the better team, so happy to get a split. Western cannot be too upset with this though, the formula for great success in college hockey is split on the road and sweep at home, and that is what they did against Miami. Should Western finish strong, I can see them earning a #2 seed. For everybody in the NCHC though, every week is a struggle vs top opposition.

Sweeping the next 3 home series is going to be tough though, we have UMD and UND as our last 2 home series.

Actually, those teams have good enough RPI's that you could be OK with splits. Western is in a great position, but playing in the NCHC is like playing basketball in the ACC this year, you are basically playing an NCAA level contender almost every game.
