"Young people are turning off sport on the box -- something that will strike fear into television executives who hoped live matches would be immune from the diversions of Netflix and video games ... Viewers between the ages of 18 and 24 were the least interested in sport as a genre, according to a survey of 31,000 people across 10 countries carried out by research firm Ampere Analysis."
Video games. 18 to 24 year olds only know life where they could play strangers online in Halo and Call of Duty.
Some here didn't believe me when I talked about declining football viewership and attendance due to video games and Netflix. Google e-sports (basically competitive video game streaming). It's numbers are rising and it's worth 500 million annually and going up.
And wait till VR tech gets legs

If you have one tekevision, sling makes sense. You also need really good computers and are subject to losing the signal.
If you do not care about ESPN and cable news and HBO and the AMCs of the works, and you are in a larger city, no real reason to do more than digital antenna. You get a lot more than just 3, 5 and 13. You get all four networks, a bunch of antenna tv like stations, channel three news and a few more. And the picture is sweet.

SlingTV is the answer.
You can watch ESPN and lots of other shows that kept people with a cable subscription for MUCH less money

Not for ESPN.
You have to think that sling users who want ESPN wanted ESPN when they had cable.
The problem for ESPN are the people who got rid of cable who didn't watch ESPN but were paying for ESPN in their basic cable bill.

How does it compare ?
http://gizmodo.com/is-directv-now-really...1789463120
"We haven’t had a chance to check out DirecTV Now—it launches tomorrow—but right now, it looks like a good first attempt to enter the online TV waters from major pay TV provider. And honestly, that’s the most exciting thing about DirecTV Now. For $35 a month, it might be worth giving a shot—especially if you don’t have a huge family. Right now, it has the best channel/price ratio of any of its competitor."

The HD picture via antenna is superb. Better than cable & SATV. I live in Huntsville, AL and get around 28 channels via antenna. The hilly terrain blocks all of the Nashville stations and most of the Birmingham stations.

Several of my friends only keep cable because of sports and ESPN. I really wish that NFL Sunday ticket could be a subscription like the others. I really miss that.

How do you get 28 channels in Huntsville? I connected a small antenna here in Memphis and couldn't get anything. Granted it was a cheap one, but I thought here I would at least get 4 channels. I need to do some research on this.

I used a similar site when I cut the cord for a couple of years:
http://antennaweb.org/
It tells you where the stations are, which direction to point your antenna, and which band to buy.
All of the local Memphis area channels are on the low and high UHF channels. NBC only is Low VHF. I purchased a $40 UHF antenna I put in my attic, a $20 Low VHF antenna (8' x 8'), and a box to join the signals together. I probably got 24 or so channels, and all of the major ones were perfect (NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox).

Hit or miss...
I guess its really about the cable companies through. But plenty of teams tried to distribute games themselves. The Yankees and the Knicks have been very successful with their own cable channels.
The Charlotte Bobcats tried and failed. Maybe it was about market size, but these smaller leagues have little to lose by distributing their games via the web. But the B1G is much bigger risk and reward by not having the pocketbook of Disney or Fox behind them.

it's not the distribution, it's the production that is key. Until leagues can produce a quality game program like ESPN/FOX/etc, it'll be hard to compete.
