I know basketball is different but ODU sure made the right call with the size of the Ted when many people were promoting 25% more seating.
Ted isn't close to one of the smallest arenas in the nation and nobody was calling for a stadium that seats 45k like the ones in those photos.

Which is why I specifically said basketball is much different than football.

ODU doesn't need a 35,000 seat stadium unless UVA or VT is coming to town. I'm surprised that people don't see that.

And, FWIW, while we definitely have plenty of empty seats during sold out games, we have had VERY few games where fewer than 15,000 bodies showed up.

We have had three home games and two of those home games had to be moved due to weather. Unfortunately that had a huge impact on those that could attend.

FWIW.... I'm so very proud to be a part of the 20,118 that love and Bleed Blue as a member of Monarchs Nation every time we take the field for every home game. Let me also go on record and say.... I'm certain that we will continue to have SELL OUTS for many years to come.

Every single college football team in the country announces attendance based on tickets sold. Every single one. If they say they base it on tickets scanned, they are either lying or ignorant to how things work. Think about it. All teams sell outs are announced before the games are played, right? How could you do that if you based it on tickets scanned? Not every one that has season tickets shows up for every game. That's just a fact and that also applies to every team in the country.

I think ODU has something special with loyal fans. Here is the MTSU vs UTSA game, yes it is the start of halftime but there were not 15,000 fans heading to the concession stands. FWIW UTSA is looking to upset the Blue Raiders after their QB went out with an injury.

If we can schedule 2 OOC home games every year against P5+Army, Navy, few AAC and even count the opener against FCS teams, we would sell out for 3 games in a ~35-40k stadium. That is nearly 50% of home games sold out.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? And if a team loses in the Georgia Dome and no one is there to see it, does the loss count?

Now you see what happens when they don't have a money drop. If they had a money drop the crowd would be twice that size. Of course, in their official release on the game they will claim 17,252.
Fan base was at home watching the first place Atlanta Falcons on TV and waiting for Trent Miles to be fired.

We need seats to sell. You can't grow the fanbase without seats to sell the casual fan. 35k is probably too much, but 28-30 seems a good starting place.

Agree completely. I'm as proud of the program as any fan but it's hard for me to be bragging on selling out a stadium that is and will continue to be smaller than FCS JMU. We are in the 757 and don't seem to be interested in taking this fanbase forward. Would love to see what our same posters would be saying if it was them that were bragging on their attendance levels. Perspective is everything.

This is the first year I've seen billboards around town for ODU FB and BB.

I mentioned the flags around town before. Lots of construction going on downtown. Plenty of cranes and buildings to fly flags from.

Another thing that would help is giving car stickers or yard signs to season ticket holders as a part of their package. Wouldn't cost the school much and it would help advertise the school.

Walk around Larchmont or Colonial Place. Two areas that have a large population of ODU staff and students. There are not many ODU signs up or cars with stickers.

Without being offensive, because I don't care to be a part of some of our fans' weird obsession with you guys, at least 22k gives you all a little room to grow. We are tapped out before our thing is even built.

We sold 6k more tickets than that to the GS game 2 years back. The only good thing is that the plan involves covering up the upper deck seats and not tearing down the upper deck. So at least that seating exists for the future. But youre right, it will take time because our OOC has no huge draws until about 2022.

I agree it would take some time and effort to get to a point of consistently drawing close to 30k, but if we only build big enough to accommodate the current fanbase, we will be in that exact same position whenever they finally do decide to increase capacity. You just can't get to 30k we in and week out without first getting to 23k and then 25k and then 28k.

Hoops, I don't think we'd fill 30k either. It would take a good amount of time and a lot of work. I just want to grow beyond where it currently is. Perhaps the right number is 25 - 28k--I really don't know. My gut tells me it has to be beyond JMU just because of where both universities sit but that's not scientific at all. I just think it's sad that we cannot even add anything for the foreseeable future. ODU has a LONG history of taking the shortest and easiest route and not restarting football during the 90s was one of them IMO. I think not trying to grow for the sake of a sellout streak is another very shortsighted mistake.

Hey, I'm going to sit as comfy and enjoy the games like the rest of us. But make no mistake...the annual 110% club gets a whole lot more responsibility over time when you don't want to bring anyone else into the club. Somewhere down the line, WS is going to be forced to grow ODU's engaged support by growing heads vs. milking the same contributors.

All that said, I guess we'll have to just disagree. Which in essence is an agreement. <Insert drink/toast emoji>
