Those pics are why I don't think we need a really big stadium. I don't believe in the "build it and they will come theory." Plus, good TV deals hurt the P5 teams because people avoid weather and high beer prices to stay on their couch.

I really think ODU got it right for now, I would have supported another 1000-2000 seats but we don't need 30,000 and an empty 10k against every team except for the ACC when they come to town.

I know basketball is different but ODU sure made the right call with the size of the Ted when many people were promoting 25% more seating.

Ted isn't close to one of the smallest arenas in the nation and nobody was calling for a stadium that seats 45k like the ones in those photos.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? And if a team loses in the Georgia Dome and no one is there to see it, does the loss count?

Now you see what happens when they don't have a money drop. If they had a money drop the crowd would be twice that size. Of course, in their official release on the game they will claim 17,252.

This is why building a smaller, higher amenity stadium is the best option for ODU.

When will the NCAA enforce bylaw 20.9.9.3 !?!?! I am sure some of these teams are finding loopholes and fudging numbers to stay afloat.

Isn't ODU just as guilty?
There have been plenty of games I've gone to that have been sold out last minute but looking around the stands, you wouldn't be able to tell.

The UMASS game was the most full that I've seen it this year. (I haven't been able to make it to every home game)
I'm sure the Marshall game will look different though.

I thought I was kidding about the "claimed crowd" but GaSt really did claim 13,363 in the official stats. From what I saw checking in on the game a few times well over 1/2 of that "claimed crowd" came disguised as empty seats. Heck, maybe over 2/3 but then again, time for their guy to jump in and tell us how it was actually much larger etc. etc.

Yet I was able to watch the GSU vs Ark St game in high def on regular cable tv in Maryland. I noticed the crowd or lack there of though. The announcers were lacking energy and sounded like they were whispering half the time since they didnt have any crowd noise in the background. The blocked field goal run back for a TD at the end of the second quarter brought back bad memories too.

I am sure there is some false number reporting on ODU as well but I believe we are ahead of the 15k minimum rule. ODU claims to have around 14k season ticket holders and another 4,000 tickets for students and faculty.

These are the schools who would be affected by the rule if the NCAA enforced it

Ball St. 8k
Eastern Mich. 5k
Georgia St. 10k
Idaho. 12k
Kent St. 13k
La.-Monroe. 12k
Massachusetts. 11k
North Texas. 13k
Northern Ill. 13k

maybe it was a miscount. Looks like 133 in the photo!

While we certainly report tickets sold, as opposed to actual attendance, the teams listed above are tickets sold numbers as well.

And, FWIW, while we definitely have plenty of empty seats during sold out games, we have had VERY few games where fewer than 15,000 bodies showed up.

We have had three home games and two of those home games had to be moved due to weather. Unfortunately that had a huge impact on those that could attend.

FWIW.... I'm so very proud to be a part of the 20,118 that love and Bleed Blue as a member of Monarchs Nation every time we take the field for every home game. Let me also go on record and say.... I'm certain that we will continue to have SELL OUTS for many years to come.
