Both Jon and Ot are Walk Ons. Gay Elmore told Dan not to put either on scholarship since he has the money to pay for their tuition. At some point I see him putting Kilgore on scholarship. Stevie Browning has an academic scholarship, I think he has the John Marshall scholarship and doesn't need an athletic one, so that kept a free scholarship open. And Rondale Watson is in his transfer year, so yes he doesn't take a scholarship up.

But Dan has said that 2 of the new comers will redshirt this year. Its just he has been tight lipped on who it will be.

I like that the Lady Techsters have been able to host SEC teams this year and last year.

RE: C-USA Hoops Exhibition Schedule
Final Score ODU 71 VA State 32 39 point WIN

Now on to make a small comparison of the 1st half play for the Monarchs and Trojans compared to the Duke game. Duke played VA State on Sat Oct 29.

*Just a footnote - Duke has been selected as the preseason #1 team in the Country in the AP Poll. The Blue Devils had a slow start the 1st half Saturday. Duke was much more effective with their offense in the 2nd half.

The Monarchs defense was effective the 1st half. The scoring was intermittent with a few really nice plays in the first 20 minuets. The Duke score on Saturday at the half was 42-27. I believe we were up like 20 points at that point (34 -14? ).

Eight (8) Monarchs scored in the first half, while ODU held VSU to 17.9% (5-28) shooting from the floor. When the second half started ODU turned it on offensively. ODU was all over Virginia State at the under-16 media timeout, as the Monarchs lead 44-17 with 15:46 to play. 25 minutes into the contest, Old Dominion's defense held Virginia State to just 17 points. With under 10 min to go in the 2nd half the score was 54-17 (10:54 remaining in regulation).

Great crowd and very rowdy student turnout at the Ted. ODU defeats VSU behind 16 points from Talley. I think this team has good chemistry. Looking forward to the 2016-17 year.

Info and Comparison for VA State Duke Game Saturday.
Duke (Pre-season #1)vs VA State (The defending CIAA Champions). They have been predicted to sweep the CIAA again. The Trojans 24-6 and 14-2 advanced to the 2nd round of the Division II NCAA - NC Tournament. Where they lost to West Liberty.

All 10 players on the VA State team played 10 min or more

32 points in six minutes is impressive but 10 in fourteen isn't. Is there that big of a talent difference in your first five and bench?

The middle of the 1st was all freshman and redshirt freshman with a sprinkle of 2nd team bench players of Ky're Allison, Jannson Williams, Phil Bledsoe, Christian Thieneman, Ajdin Penava, Alexsa Nikolic and Noah Frampton . This was Allison, Williams, Bledsoe and Thieneman's first ever college game action. Thieneman was a RS last year and Frampton only seen action in the 1st 6 games after getting hurt and redshirted also.

Two of the three of Ky're Allison, Jannson Williams and Phil Bledsoe will redshirt so you won't see two of them until next year, unless there are injuries.

I wouldn't call it a talent gap but a learning process. D'Antoni's system of "Organized Chaos" or what the media called "Mike's 7 seconds or Less" when in Phoenix is simple but complicated to learn. Even Ryan Taylor earlier this year said it took him over a year to fully understand what Dan was doing.

MT ladies looked phenomenal today, couldn't miss. Played everybody in the first half more or less. 124-35 victory. Men playing now, looks like our biggest exhibition crowd maybe ever ? Huge turnout... considering the opponent.

I was pleasantly surprised tonight with Marshall at the line. They went 16-20. Now the question is can they keep that up for the entire season and not just 4-6 games. Marshall would have had 3-5 more wins last year had we just made FTs. Both games at UAB jump out at me there. The game in Huntington was 81-78, Marshall was 11-29 from the line and the game in Birmingham was 95-91, Marshall was 13-21. We shoot better and we have a much different path in the CUSA tourney last year.

RE: C-USA Hoops Exhibition Schedule
Blue Raider men beat North Alabama 96-63. Played everybody. A lot. Kermit seemed to be focused on seeing different combinations on the floor together. Potts and Upshaw seemed to pickup where they left off last season, except Upshaw was perfect from the FT line. Williams looks to be great addition. It was good to see Ed Simpson starting. He was the sixth man last year who suffered a devastating injury at the first practice in Birmingham just before the tournament. Walters at 6-11 is going to create problems inside for other teams. Dixon, the freshman lefty, started at PG and was 3-5 behind the arc.

And it was previously mentioned, the Lady Raiders blew out their opponent, led 70-14 at halftime.

Lady Tops won I think the score was 98-51, I think the girls could have named the score but played everybody and lots of combos. The men did the same thing, played everybody the whole game, I think knows he must build depth early knowing we have a hard road trip coming up soon

eh, it happens. I'm sure USM will have their struggles again this season, but I doubt you're at a DII level.
