Password sharing and subscriptions to skinny bundles continue to eat away.

The cost of a cable bundle is just not worth it. I got rid of Time Warner (WOO-HOO!!) and now have PS VUE. It is awesome. I absolutely love it. Cheaper to do this and no contract. There just isn't much of a reason to keep cable.

ESPN lost 621,000 subscribers last month. They are losing customers at a pace of 7,500,000 per year (8% of subscriber base).

By the time we get to 2018 when negotiations for the next CFP and bowls begin it could have a significant impact. They were the only ones willing to over pay for the current bowl system.

I got rid of ESPN. It saves $30 dollars by not having it included in my package.

Instead I have a sports pack with my cable company that has CBS Sports and ESPNU channels my team actually plays on.

I understand. I went with Vue over Sling for a few reasons but a big one being BTN. Terps football plays on it pretty regularly. Once b-ball starts I may drop down or even check out Sling again. I believe ATT has new one as well. Have to check that out as well. Just go what works for you.

The cable companies can offer discounts on movie channels where the internet TV providers can't.

I pay 2 dollars a month for HBO, Starz and Showtime, 20 channels combined.

I pay $22 a month for starter cable, HD service, 20 movie channels and a sports pack plus taxes w/ internet subscription. ESPN/2 would add $30 dollars to the bill.

If I want to check out a big college game I have ABC for that.

Interesting that CBS-Sports doesn't show up on this survey despite having more subscribers (50-60 million) than many of the networks listed.

They aren't registered with Nielsen.

In another discussion forum, someone claims that is just 621,000 cable subscribers ... so not counting Sling, Vue (and etc.) subscribers. If tha is correct, Sling is reported to have passed 600,000 subscribers in February of this year, and Vue to have hit 100,000 sometime in June, so it's quite possible that a substantial share of that "cable subscriber loss" was a switch in medium rather than an actual loss of subscribers.

That would make sense for two reasons:
1) ESPN is reporting all-time highs for streaming
2) They have not seemed all that concerned about it

Just wait, when they aren't getting revenues from cable subscriptions they will come after their streaming content for subscription prices.

Neilsen needs to be done away with asap. It's an antiquated system that doesn't accurately reflect the viewing public.

I left Directv for VUE. No Regrets and I really enjoy VUE, plus I saved $100 per month. I do wish Vue carried CBSSN though, since they show many MW games.

That's the drawback with the skinny bundles. Sling separates ESPN+ESPN2 into one package, Fox/FS-1 into the other, and tosses CBSSN into the Sports Extra (IIRC). To get them all would cost $45/month.

It's certainly a better deal for ACC and SEC fans, since they can get all of their games on the ESPN package with the sports extra for $25. This includes NCAAT games on TBS and TNT.

The B1G, B12 and P12 are or will now be split between FOX and ESPN, so you would need the $45 package, which still doesn't get you BTN.

Yes, BTN is included in the Sling "Sports Extra" pkg.

Not on the ESPN Sports package (Orange), it must be on the FOX based package (Blue)
