Hawaii basketball penalties to be reconsidered
http://www.staradvertiser.com/2016/10/28...-declares/
"The University of Hawaii men’s basketball team’s postseason ban and other penalties for the coming season must be reconsidered [by the Committee on Infractions], the NCAA announced this morning in a news release of a decision by its Infractions Appeals Committee."
"In February, UH appealed what it considered harsh penalties by the NCAA in its ruling of violations committed during the tenure of former coach Arnold. In April UH argued the Committee on Infractions “abused its discretion” in applying the postseason ban without finding any Level I violations or a lack of institutional control or failure to monitor."
Nice of them to finally get around to responding to our appeal... now that everyone who would have been returning from last year's NCAA tournament team has transferred or left school to turn pro.

How is this off topic? Was it started on another board?

Because Hawaii topics are supposed to be on the "13th Game Board"

I thought HI was a territory, not a state.

I labeled it as off topic because it's not about conference realignment.

Mongoose...you are cool to post Hawaii BB posts anytime...the board is General College Sports and Conference Realignment (no OT needed)

Dang that sucks! All your players left already? You guys had a good team coming back too...didn't Hawaii make the tourney last year?
Cheers!

We made the tourney, upset Cal in the first round, and lost to Maryland in the second round.
We lost our top eight players in terms of minutes played. Three were seniors, two (our top scorers) left school early to go pro, two transferred to other D-I programs, and the other suffered a season-ending wrist injury over the summer and will return next year.

Ok, wow...by the way, do you remember your old coach, I think his name was Riley Wallace? Anyway he was a great coach and Hawaii had some good teams in those days. 80's and 90's right? You guys would play UNLV and have those 110-109 high flying games...IIRC.
Cheers!

I've been going to UH basketball games for decades and Riley was the head coach for most of that time. He had some great teams, particularly the 1997 squad that beat Bobby Knight-coached Indiana (Knight was so angry that he walked back to the hotel in Waikiki instead of riding the team bus) and 2nd-ranked Kansas featuring Paul Pierce (that win was on my 39th birthday; talk about a birthday present!). Riley had a close relationship with Tark, and there were epic battles between UH and Tark's Fresno State teams. Anyhow Riley is retired now and living in Las Vegas but he still visits Hawaii frequently and made it to a couple of UH home games last season.
