MyBB Rudd & Tubby have set the bar high
Too high?

“He’s had an immediate impact,” Rudd said. “Tubby has brought a new level of energy and attention and, frankly, a new level of respect to Tiger basketball. He’ll restore the proud history that we’ve had. I have little doubt we’ll get back to an Elite Eight or Final Four. Tubby believes he can do that here. That’s why we brought him here.”

An elite 8 by the end of his contract is not an irrational thought.

Those should be our expectations not hopes.

What else is he gonna say? Of course these should be our expectations and I agree that I'd expect Tubby to have that kind of success here as well.

Every coach we've had since 1970 that's been here 5 years has been to a sweet 16 except one

To accept anything less is stupid

I don't think they set it too high, but that's me. I feel like Tubby will at least get us to an elite eight and probably to a final four. I have full confidence in Tubby!

It's Tubby Time!!

This is very true! The fact that Josh couldn't at least once get us to a sweet 16 is and was pathetic on a huge grand scale!

It's Tubby Time!!!

That may be what Tubby told Rudd during the interview process, but I doubt that Tubby wanted that on Twitter.

Why would you not set the bar high? If you are not aiming high what is the point?

Best finishes-S16 or better (obviously Cal had 4 S16s also)
Bartow. F4
Yates. No
Kirk. 3 S16s 1 NC game. (2 in S16 vs Phi Slama Jama)
Finch 1E8, 1 S16
Price. No
Cal. 2 E8s, 1 S16, 1 NC game
Pastner. No

So 4 of 7 coaches since 1970 have taken us at least to Elite 8. For the nit pickers, Jones was an interim coach. I expect E8 from Tubby.

For me, S16 is attainable in the (I hope near) future. Beyond that, as Bluto said, you need a little luck, good draw, an upset, etc. to advance. Either way, I think this program is leaps and bounds better off now than it was a year ago.

Kirk never took us to the NC game, we lost to Villanova in the Final four in '85. It was Bartow that took us to the NC game in '73.

RE: Rudd & Tubby have set the bar high
As others have said, only four coaches have achieved an Elite Eight.
Bartow in 1973 (Finch, Robinson, Keenon)
Kirk in 1985 (Lee - school record for most points & rebounds still standing over 30 years later)
Finch in 1992 (Hardaway, ‘nuff said)
Cal in 06, 07, 08 (too many to name, but we all remember who we had on the floor)

When we’ve made E8‘s in the past, we’ve had serious talent on the team -- never even close with 3-star level guys.

Really, I was just curious what people thought, because it seems like lots of folks weren’t expecting much from Tubby, but that certainly hasn’t been borne out in this thread, so far.

For a guy starting where we are now with four more years on his contract, I’d have to agree with Bluto, too, about the luck involved for an Elite Eight. A Sweet 16, though -- I’d be very disappointed if we didn’t hit that within the next two or three years. I wouldn’t be surprised by an Elite Eight, but we need a big improvement in talent level.

So 4 of the 7 coaches we have had in last 46 years have gotten lucky, some multiple times? Not buying that. Good, well coached teams advance to E8 each year. It is when a Cinderella is in E8 that it is an anomaly.

First off, it's not "some" coaches with multiple E8's, it's one. Second, you can go a lot farther back than the last 7 coaches or the last 46 years. Third, and more importantly, many more good, well coached teams get beaten every year before the Elite Eight than make it to the Elite Eight, so yeah, there's some luck involved when you get to the top end of the tournament. You have to be a whole lot better than the rest (like we were in '08) before you don't have to sweat advancing in the second weekend's games.

I just hope we are past the days of getting to postseason and knowing exactly how badly an opponent is going to whip the Tigers.

Shtt got infuriatingly old.

This. I can accept losing a hard fought game to a better team, but the repeated skulldraggings were unacceptable.
