Realistic Second Half Expectations
Now that we are half way thru the season and have a fairly good understanding of how good our programs are, how do you see the rest of your season playing out? Let's be realistic about these expectations.
North Texas
Should Win
UTEP- No defense
50/50
Army- Best they have looked in years
UTSA- Played well all season, and beat USM last week
Southern Miss- Down a little, but still in the hunt
Wouldn't be surprised if we lost
LA Tech- Probably the best team in the West
WKU- Probably the second best team in the East. I think MT beats them.

RE: Second Half Expectations
If Tech meets might my expectations, we should be 6-0. Realistically, 5-1 with a loss at USM, FIU or UNT. 4-2 would be under-performing and bad coaching from Holtz and staff
@Massachusetts --- Tech should win
Sat, Oct 22@FIU ---- Tech should win,Holtz better have Tech prepared for this game
Sat, Oct 29 vs Rice ----- With the way Rice has played, Tech should not lose this game
Sat, Nov 5@North Texas-----Watched UNT played Marshall, UNT is improved but Tech should win this with our offense
Sat, Nov 12 vs Texas-San Antonio ----Should win at home but will be close
Fri, Nov 25 @Southern Miss -----Tough game 50/50 but we definitely could win

Fully capable of 6-0, Less than 5-1 would be disappointing.

FAU is capable of Herculean undertakings just to get our record to 3-9. Otherwise, we're looking at 2-10.

I expect a lot of moaning, bitchiness and whining. And then I expect those same people will moan, ***** and whine if and when D'Antoni happened to lose 3 or 4 in a row. It never fails, you would think our fan base was a bunch of menopausal middle age women.

Southern Miss is giving up 27 points a game against the likes of Kentucky, Troy, UTEP, Rice, and UTSA, while losing to Troy and UTSA.
North Texas is giving up 28.7 points a game against the likes of SMU, Florida, Rice, MTSU, and Marshall. I know USM is averaging 40 points a game, but you can forget about putting 40 on our defense. It just isn't going to happen.
At this point, I think 50/50 is a very fair assessment.

That's not reality. Here's your reality.
at Army 15%
at UTSA 30%
Louisiana Tech 20%
at Western Kentucky 1%
Southern Miss 30%
at UTEP 45%
That adds up to about 1 win the rest of the way.

Make it 55/45 because Sagarin has us favored by 2 even with home field advantage. Losing to Troy at home and to UTSA by 24 so it's possible. But if Tech plays like we did last year against USM, we lose by 30.

RE: Realistic Second Half Expectations
Based on how we've played so far, we have a chance to beat Charlotte, ODU, and FIU. There is zero chance in hell we beat Southern Miss, Middle Tennessee, and WKU. Best case scenario: 5-7 regular season.

RE: Realistic Second Half Expectations
The Massey ratings for Tech have us winning out:
at FIU (90% chance of winning)
vs Rice (95% chance of winning)
at North Texas (86% chance of winning)
vs UTSA (85% chance of winning)
at USM (59% chance of winning)
* But the games aren't played on paper.

Right now I'd pick La Tech to win all those games. If USM can stop turning the ball over that'd be a toss up in my book. Tech has certainly overachieved this season compared to mine and others preseason expectations. Right now I'd say you're favored to win the west and face either WKU or MT in another shootout, last one with the ball wins title game.

RE: Realistic Second Half Expectations
Hard to say what our expectations are. At worst, i expect a winning season and a bowl game. Beyond that, we'll see. The game at WKU this weekend will tell us alot about where we are. If we some how pull that one off, expectations go to another level.
