The time is now to kick the door in on CUSA. The SunBelt is definitely the more stable conference now. It makes alot of sense to at least explore the option with purging CUSA to gauge interest from other schools. I would love to take LA Tech, UAB, MTSU, & WKU. The two Florida schools would work also, but these four school are stuck right in the middle on the SunBelt footprint.

I am sure Texas ST would like the Texas schools.
A reorganization with a North and South conference for travel cost would make sense.
Rice is the only school out of place in either of these conferences.

If we could get UTSA that would be awesome. I don't think they really bring much, especially since we already have them scheduled for 9 years, but then we could have our annual rivalry game and replace them with an even better OOC matchup.

We won't make one dollar more taking in more schools.
How do people not get this by now?
We actually will lose money adding any schools for the foreseeable future.
We get 10M from the playoffs.
10,000,000/10=1,000,000
10,000,000/12=8333,333
For those who keep putting this notion of adding a CUSA team you going to stroke a check for the difference to your school?
You get paid for up to 12 teams so there is no benefit to exceeding 12 teams for playoff monies. Your comparison works when looking at 12/14 teams.
No, it got changed to $10 mill no matter what, so even going to 12 hurts
There are several factors in play when one evaluates the benefits or cons to adding teams.
1. CFP money capped at 10M
2. Travel
3. School perception. Will your fans want team X on your schedules. This could lead to increase ticket sales.
4. Conference rankings. You could easily make up the 200k loss of CFP money simply by weakening the other conference and strengthen ours.
Adding 2 good teams could lead to an increase in revenue. Just some more factors to consider.

My apologies, I must have missed that change. When did this happen, I can't find jack about it?
Last year. They moved the 2M from the CFP money to the conference rankings payout. So it is even more important to do better in that ranking. Could easily make up the difference there if the right teams are added, thus weakening the cusa even more.

You want the two F_U schools that still are stuck in despair despite changing to the "better" conference? The correlation between the departure of those two and North Texas and the downfall of the C-USA, as well as the perception of the Sun Belt prior to their departure cannot be ignored.
Along with the purge of Idaho and NMSU, the logical expansion choices would be Marshall, WKU, MTSU and Southern Miss. For football, this makes sense as the "Western" division would be more centralized and the eastern division would be a more tight fit, greatly reducing logistical costs. Revenue should also be increased as there would be far more interest in schools that have history through either 1-AA or 1-A play of the 1970's through now as well as the regional fit. Reducing costs is next to increased revenue in impact on the bottom line (funding for all sports).

1. CFP money capped at 10M - Push - The difference in having 11 teams in a conference that spreads the country versus a conference that is from the central US to the east will make up for the lost revenue.
2. Travel - Lower costs, more interest in geographically close schools = higher impact on bottom line
3. School perception - MTSU, WKU, Marshall, USM all are held in relatively high regards
4. Conference rankings - C-USA would be dead in the water. There isn't enough fan interest in MAC football as a whole to compete with the addition of two schools that have the ability to draw 35,000 and two that average around 23,000. Would expect that to remain stable with increased interest in schools actually competitive in football instead of FAU, FIU, ODU, UNCC, UTSA, UTEP, and Rice.

You're analysis fails to determine the trade-off of increased fan interest and decreased travel cost. One could forecast an increase in revenue and a decrease in cost related to having schools that are competitively similar and geographically closer.
