Attendance of 25,236!
Seems to me they can solve the problem by allowing alcohol down to the seats! It's a simple fix JMU! Oh and if you want a similar effect throughout the stadium... Allow alcohol sales to general admissions. If you get beer hawkers going up and down... Even better chance you will keep butts in seats!

( I know there are capacity limits and fire regulations etc. and all sorts of reasons that this may not be an option, but I would love to get those yellow seats full! It's embarrassing to see all those empty seats. The next step would be to teach those seated to make some noise when we are on defense.)

Serious question, do they really need those seats to be assigned? Seems to me if there are for example 300 seats in that area, then they should sell at least half again more otherwise 450. I cannot see one seat really being all that much better or worse than the other. People go up, get something refreshing, talk a little, then go back out (at least that is the perception).

I've never been in that area nor have I been in one of the suites, but at Charlotte Motor Speedway, some suites might have as many as 50 seats in them, and then a large standing area behind the seats where all the food and beverages are located. They allow many more folk in a suite than the number of seats the suite has. Those who choose to sit do and those who prefer to stand, stand. Often you may sit in many different seats throughout a race and there are a few who like to mark their spot with a jacket or something, but there never is a problem. Could this sort of thing be done??? Or would folk go nuts over not having an assigned gold seat?

I had gold club seats the first 4 years and had every intention of keeping them for life. I didn't re-new at the end of my 4 year contract because there was no movement toward FBS. If I had felt FBS was happening in the near future, I would have kept them. However, I would not have ever considered spending that much money without having specific assigned seats that I felt were mine! But, that is just my way of looking at it. Others may feel different. Oh, and I stayed in my seat cheering during the game!

Opening game, HC and Family weekend are almost guaranteed 23k+ attendance games. If they could schedule a better second game and get back to a situation where that last home game is an ongoing regional rival (a la ODU for a couple years) they can be assured of 22K plus average for 5 home games. 6th would be opponent/weather/record dependent.

In thinking about a move up, that is a tremendous built in advantage.

Don't all other schools have those 3 home games on their schedule as well?

Weird, but ODU has Parents Weekend and Homecoming on the same game???

is that for realz? That is bizarre.

NJDuke - I think you might have misunderstood my point. I was just saying that JMU has a long tradition of supporting those events. Not so with other schools, even though, of course, they have those events. JMU fans have always come out for those weekends and with some creativity and fortune on the other ones, really could be averaging 24K.

This weekend's attendance was excellent.

I don't see it being feasible to add ticket holders such as a non-seat category to those who have seats now as it's already quite crowded throughout pre-game & half-time. So I think to make something like this work JMU would actually have to reduce the Club Level seating amount. However, I still don't think that would solve the problem. A lot of those who are in the section have disposable income and are thus at a donation level that lets them pick early in the seat selection process. Because they have the cash, I'd speculate that many would end up buying the seat option just in case they ever want to go out to watch the game, even if they rarely do. Then JMU runs the risk of missing out on some of those who want the club amenities but actually do go out to watch the game. Those folks may opt for seats elsewhere at a lower donation level.

The suites are set up that way but I don't see that working for the Club Level itself. You can pretty much take any section within the stadium and argue that there is very little sight line difference between any two seats. But there are always perceived value differences (higher/lower, aisle, closer to 50, etc.). Once you are set up in a spot you like (or best available at the time), it'd be pretty irritating to lose that seat to someone else because you & your group needed to use the restroom during a timeout and have to settle for perceived lesser seats upon returning. I think this is true for anyone anywhere in the stadium regardless of donation level.

I was hoping to make the game but couldn't so what I said may have been based on panning of the camera for an hour before the game or something so if they were full, that's great. I want them to be full, make no mistake about that. I really don't feel like having a message board argument with anybody but when Longhorn starts talking about football it's just laughable.

Well it's not even that really, it's that you proceeded to get upset and defensive when someone attempted to tell you it was otherwise. I sit in 210, my section was packed. Others had a few open seats, but if you told me it was going to be that packed of a crowd I would have taken it every day.

Maybe not the most raucous crowd I've seen (easily was Richmond last year) but definitely a great crowd

It's also a tad ironic you get mad at Longhorn when it reality it was me that started the whole conversation. I was just asking a simple question of which sections too.

I'd say the argument lies moreso with the culture that the administration has been trying to instill since the springfest riot. Reducing undergrad/underage binge drinking has been a huge target for JMU since then, and they've been successful so far in my opinion. It wasn't that long ago police were being really tight about alcohol in reserved/non-reserved parking lots on gameday, and JMU seemed to be trying to clamp down on the wild tailgates. Last thing they're going to do is encourage a couple bucks in sales by bringing alcohol into athletic events (regardless of student or alumni status) and they're probably wise to do so. my 2 cents.

but would I spend money on a nice valley brew or 3 by halftime? damn right you know it.

WVU brought beer into the stadium to help curb binge-drinking at tailgates & it has been viewed as a success! I think Longhorn's right. It just mortifies certain folks & that's why it hasn't happened yet.

I incorrectly stated earlier 405 is center of upper deck. Actually its just left of center (section to the left of the open windows). I had said 75%-80% full. Zooming in can see some open seating but it looks at least 80% full. To the right of that is 406, in the center, under the open windows. That looks almost totally full (90%-95%) in that pic.

Most of the stadium looks near totally full. Again, great crowd. As good as you can expect short of ESPN Gameday..
