Word is #LSU made the move now bc there was a feeling Les Miles might temporarily save his job again & program would keep going in circles.

That's a healthy work environment

MAC coaches jump to Purdue, Iowa State, Syracuse, Northwestern, Missouri, Utah. Can't think of any that have made that big of a jump.

That's straight out of the Pat Haden approach to management. Did that when he fired Kiffin, and again when he fired USC's men's basketball coach.

At least LSU didn't fire Miles at the airport and tell him to find his own ride home.

RE: Les Miles fired
Miles problem was he couldn't live up to the expectations he created...
1st 7 years he was at LSU he was 75-18. 41-15 in SEC play.
Last 4 1/3 years, he's 39-16. and "only" 21-13 in SEC play. with 7-9 on the road.

Briles is undoubtedly a Texas guy. Is from Texas, played in Texas, and has only ever coached in Texas.

Don't think either are SEC guys.

LSU gets a LOT of players out of Texas...part of their Louisiana base which is also very rich.

And it's not as if they wouldn't still get the best from Louisiana.

Yeah but that wasn't the point. The point was the coach wanting to stay in the state of Texas. NOT that LSU would be willing to hire a Texas guy (of course they would).

At this time LSU is the best job in Texas.

His problem is that he was as dumb as a brick.

He knew how to recruit players. He knew how to get them ready. But on game day, I would pick just about everybody on this board to do a better job managing the game over him.

Most apology tours just allow the person to walk down the street without being spit on, but they don't often get a chance to return to their former lofty status.

Jim Tressel? I know he wasn't from the MAC, but that was an even smaller school/job than a MAC school, and he jumped to an even bigger school than LSU.

The OC Cameron was fired as well.

Briles is going to get hired by somebody. Petrino did. Much to my chagrin I heard his name tossed around at Auburn. Firing Miles now does 1 thing for L.S.U.. It gives them first shot at landing whoever is available.

It also ends the the story line every week being is Les going to be retained rather than what happened in the game, or some other more positive story line. Yeah it always looks bad, but from a business standpoint it's a solid move. It also gives the players time to get adjusted to a new coach should one be named. It's a familiar role for Orgeron. And with their expectations being high before the season losses to Wisconsin and Auburn had already killed this season. Now there is nowhere to go but up so the focus will be on improvements and not additional failures.

Miami did OK by firing their coach early in the season last year. LSU has their work cut out for them but it is still possible to get a home run coach.

Sure didn't help South Carolina last year.

Definitely deserves better.

I'm guessing this was done out of panic/anger at the idea that LSU might finish at the back of the SEC West and tThe desire to get out in front of the coaching carrousel to get Tom Herman on board in case OU or UT have seasons dissapointing enough to be coach shopping at the end.
