RE: Ron Cooper
Dear masttg,
Don't get me wrong with what I am about to say, because I was a big fan of Cooper when he was here. However, if I remember correctly, he was not successful at Louisville, eventually getting fired, and then ended up at Alabama A&M as an assistant. So I wouldn't call that moving on successfully. I'm happy for him at his latest stop, but think he would have been more successful had he stayed at Eastern a few more years before moving on.

RE: Ron Cooper
He got hired away by a bigger program due to his success at EMU. No other coach in, what, 40 years, can say that.
And no he was the head coach at A-AM and a position coach in the NFL.
And yes, many lower-tier coaches move on too early, but then it is hard to turn down such enormous pay raises.

RE: Ron Cooper
Dear masttg,
I stand corrected on Alabama A&M, but record-wse Cooper was no better than 4-5 in his two years at Eastern. He probably got a big raise at Louisville, no doubt, but I don't think he was ready for that kind of move.

I agree.
He had rebuilt the EMU team which won 4 of of its last 5 games in 1994.
Cooper should have stayed around in 1995 and tried to win say 7 or 8 games and then take the bigger offer.
I'm surprised that L'ville took a coach just because he got hot at the end of one season...

RE: Ron Cooper
Cooper's problem was that he was too ambitious.
The longest time at any job, including EMU, was TWO years.
Sometimes one needs to grow into a job before moving on to a bigger one...

Well he knew how to recruit talented players but ahem they weren't boy scouts.....suffice to say they probably would not be on a CC team

Would we be better off if our players got into more trouble?

No, I like the fact we're not taking prop 48s which I believe Cooper did do. We're losing some of the players we're recruiting to Ivy league and service academies which tells me we're targeting the right players (PS the players I'm referring also had other FBS offers besides ours).

Sorry, I didn't put that question very well.
I haven't heard the term prop 48 in a long time. Is that classification still around?
