Bingo! We need coaches who can improve the skill sets of the recruits we get. We have enough talent. We apparently have lacked a coaching staff that can improve upon what high schools send us.
Once again, the championship coaches teach, rehearse, and teach some more. The flashes in the pan rely upon recruiting a stud or two and showcasing them. They can recruit but they can't teach, nor can they adapt to what is happening on the field easily.
If Auburn wanted a consistent winner. Appalachian State and North Dakota State both have consistent winners. The issue then becomes familiarity with the recruiting grounds. That's where hiring the right coordinators comes in.
I disagree on Petrino. He may come to Auburn in a heartbeat, but his track record is rapids success, followed by allegations, followed by crash & burn. I think given his past vignettes with Auburn we'll pass.

Out of curiosity, what allegations towards Petrino are you referring to?

Allegations of misconduct. There is a fairly extensive history of this. His recruiting is a bit shady, but he doesn't seem to have come under fire for that beyond a few ticky tack things. Certainly nothing as scathing as Petino. He just can't keep his personal stuff together for very long. And, his reputation for hopping jobs without warning is extensive.

The way he bolted ATL sucked, but in his defense, he was hired to coach Micheal Vick, who ended up being assigned to Levenworth to turn big rocks into little rocks. The Hawgs gave him 24 hrs to make a decision. Could he have handled it better? TBH, with the conditions that Arkansas had set, the only professional alternative would have been to turn down the offer.

Unfortunately, the college season ends about a month before the pros do. It was still a messed up situation for all.

Also consider that the Falcons had already locked him out & made it clear that he wouldn't be back the next season. He wanted to bench a couple starters & the owner refused.

Mizzou has already hung 58 points on this Delaware State team. Lock has 402 yds passing and five TDs in the first half. It is almost a shame the way FBS schools beat up on these guys. I realize the FCS schools get a nice payday, but it's really painful. Heat index in Columbia is 107, and their defense is about to collapse from minutes played.

State's QB problem may be even uglier than Auburn's.

A&M has pulled away from Arkansas. 21 point lead with 3:47 to go in the game.

Yeah, Arky kind of self destructed in the last half quarter. It looks like A&M is going to be the challenger for Alabama but they are going to have to deal with Ole Miss first. Since the Aggie defense is much improved (except for the long ball, oops) I like their chances.

Unfortunately I couldn't I actually had to work this weekend but I was able to watch it. Given the late hour I was especially thankful it wasn't yet another overtime game like the last two meetings were
