HPSD is a C/D level district. Now, white flight allowed it to get as bad it is but it's not a viable option for families that want a half-decent education for their children.

PCS uses Bob Jones/PCC textbooks but it's still much much better than the public school alternative. As is Sacred Heart.

But like you said, HPSD got the way it is because of the white flight, which was my original point. It has to stop.

So a certain demographic leaves a school, the school underperforms academically and the blame lies on the people who left?

RE: Bond Money
No, it has gotten that way because of the eliminating God from the schools by the govt. sure, there are some that leave for reasons that are wrong, but please do not lump all that go to private and Christian schools as "white flight".

I was thinking this same thing on Saturday. The lot we usually park at that hasn't been more than half full was already full close to 3 hours before kickoff. that premise has been my main argument as long as I can remember....not supporting the university is a loser any way you look at it...too many do not and this is where the web/mktg crew need to step it up a notch every chance they get....

renovating the Yurt is a game changer....adding one or two female sports doesn't mean diddly poo....

it has to happen to support the infrastructure properly.....it doesn't matter whether some like it or not....

oaf grove is a cf of shite in civil planning/engineering.....it's exactly what happens when you just let the masses run a-muck and built 'shite'....

Actually, it does matter if they like it or not and that is why it is being fought on several fronts. Cities should not be able to annex and area simply to gain a tax base without providing services. I chose to live in OG when I moved here for the schools and quality of life. I wanted my kids to go to a good public school and I wanted neighborhoods with large wooded lots. I started to consider downsizing and moving into Hattiesburg, but the circus that is Hattiesburg city government has made me nix that for sure. I'll take the lack of "central planning" any day.

the point was the monies will end up being ~= in the end regardless of the choice....I would say more if they choose to incorporate knowing how things have been constructed over the last 20 yrs....

the difference is voting power where those that live have to go to work 'within' and will continue to biatch/swarm like like little worker bees....

this is all about voting power....one can't fly and biatch what they left in my book....

to go full circle as a reminder, this is about a bond issue that won't get passed in the current demographic make-up...

A new system is in place and running like a top.

No gov't needed. The lagoon is shut down.

When my mom was a widdle girl, H'burg city limits only went to where H'burg Zoo is currently....then H'burg annexed to where Highway 49 is...Years later H'burg annexed to 38th Ave.....and when I was a young man H'burg annexed across I-59 into Lamar Park....all done with a whimper, not a bang, and it was called PROGRESS.

After 1970, any annexing into the Oak Grove neighborhoods were challenged in the courts....while city of H'burg was given the Hwy 98 corridor as appeasement (and as a tax base) to restaurants, bars, shopping centers, malls, etc., while also giving the residents of OG a much more robust and attractive entertainment option than they normally would have. Annexation was now all done with a bang, not a whimper, and it is called GOVERNMENT INTRUSION!

No matter which side you take, the idea of a vibrant and healthy city of Hattiesburg, with a population of 55-75,000, IS an intriguing idea, but one that, alas, is GONE WITH THE WIND!04-cheers

Just pointing out that you "poo poo'd" Canebrake's sewage system while referencing the "planning" they would have received as part of Hattiesburg when Hattiesburg desperately needs money to address their lack of planning related to waste water treatment.

I want Hattiesburg, all of Hattiesburg and the surrounding areas, to be great places to live and work but annexing areas simply to prop up poor management and planning isn't the answer.

The Federal Building downtown had a bomb threat this morning, on the same day that Fairly reported to court. Coincidence? I think not.

Definitely not a coincidence.

If the Feds take down DuPree (or if he loses the election next year), there will be a Ferguson style meltdown from "the community".
