Yes...Ruff did a good job recruiting and left Mo some talent to work with.

And Mo is molding the talent into future NFL players. Honestly in hindsight it feels like our NFL pipeline took a dip during the Ruff years when Skip had NFL players almost yearly.

So Justin Hardy is not an NFL player? Because Ruff brought him to ECU. What about Isaiah Jones? Ruff brought him too. And any of the other guys that might be NFL talents on the current team were brought in by Ruff.

1. I never said it dried up, just took a dip.

2. It's hard to see them have breakout years under Ruff like they are posed to do now.

I said months ago that I expected 9-3 because that's the kind of talent that's on this team and what I believe Ruffin McNeill would've gotten had he stayed. And that was counting USCe as a loss...we should beat them

No one is counting this as a breakout season. If they are then they obviously don't know the caliber or teams left on ECU's schedule. Don't get ahead of yourself. Beating ACC teams is good, but in order to have a breakout season; ECU would need to get at least 10 wins.

Btw, you keep alluding to the fact that Ruff was a bad coach. He wasn't. He delivered some of the worst whippings to ACC teams that any ECU fan ever witnessed. He had a 5 game winning streak against them; and played them close in countless other games. On top of that; ECU was the first G5 team ranked under the current system, so you might want to get a fuller picture of Ruff's tenure at ECU. The problem with Ruff was that his teams were sloppy and he and his staff didn't always think through situations. However, even his worse detractors would acknowledge that Ruff left ECU plenty of talent. If ECU can start 3-1 or 4-0 that would be great; and a lot of that would be due to Ruff's getting lots of talent and Montgomery coaching up said talent.

I'm not alluding to it, I've outright stated it. Ruff WAS a bad head coach. Not to mention he had surgery to lose weight and by last year he was already regaining weight. If he can't manage himself how can you expect him to mange a group of college kids?

Got this directly from staff. Riley ran that team. Once he left there was no one running the ship. Ruff would be walking around kissing babies while Riley ran the whole operation. Huge upgrade w Mo.

UVA has also played a Top 10 FCS team (that could have beaten 25 or so FBS programs) and a Top 25 Oregon team in the road. Their schedule has been tougher than ours.

We wish Coach Ruff the best! He won a lot of big games at ECU. He beat NC State twice.

Remember----he recruited all the players we have this year!

Don't hate on Ruff, he's a pirate and a first class man. I'm glad to have Coach Montgomery but I've got nothing but love for Ruff.

It is pretty clear why Benkert jumped ship and I don't hold it against him. He pretty much knew he was not going to be able to play as much as he wanted to this season at ECU and UVA gave him a better opportunity to have one solid season under center. I'm not going to bad mouth either him or Ruff. They both did good things at ECU and represented the University with class. I appreciate all their efforts in Greenville and wish them both success.

The puzzling thing is that it was said they were on par with each other before the spring game then right after he left. Makes me think the reports were wrong.

Or different coaches, systems, and players around him... Nelson Minnesota stats were horrific compared to what he is putting up at ecu

Jerry Kill's option offense (and I call it that because that's still what Minny runs) is not a QB driven system. Look at their QB's stats from their week 1 win over Oregon State:

13/26, 130 yds, 0 TDs
13 rush, 76 yds

So it's par for the course. You can look back historically at almost all of Kill's teams and now this team coached by one of his longtime assistants and QB stats are the same.

When they pass in games against real competition, it's not because they want to, it's because they have to. The QB is rarely in a spot to succeed as a passer.
