FCS Coaches Poll

To be honest, I very likely won't go to this game. In 20 years Kent State has offered nothing but the same. The same gameday experience, same bad football, same smoke and mirrors that we're improving. There's a lot going on in our area on a nice Saturday afternoon. I only went to a couple b-ball games last year. I can't believe what I've become, but I totally understand why we don't have any fans.

I think we all get caught up in what used to be ... even w/Cribbs and Edelman there was complaining ... instead of getting caught up in what looks like a nice freshman QB battle that could bode well for the future.

We have half (defense) of a good team ... with just a bit of luck/patience maybe the other half will come around ...

This is a good time to evaluate our program. Dropping down to FCS would save money and potentially make this awful program relevant.

I think you mean completely irrelevant. Better to drop football altogether (not happening, imo) than move to the minor leagues that has most of the same expenses and almost none of the revenue.

Thank you Axe for educating some of these defeatist on the board. Study after study confirms your point. That is why some of the FCS programs are fighting hard to find a G5 conference that will accept them.

If anything, I'd think a move to I-AA would cost more. The travel is worse and you wouldn't be getting the $1M+ paydays from Alabama, Arizona State, etc.

I wonder why we don't add that 13th game to our schedule if we are as budget-conscious as many point out.

As I mentioned in the other thread, high end college athletics (BCS 5 Conference Universities) are basically a financial bubble anyway. It might take 10-20 years, but the current system is going to blow apart and Kent would be well-served by keeping themselves in a position to take advantage of this hanging out on the fringes during that time. Of course, it'd be great to have a competitive football team at the appropriate level (MAC) in the meantime.

If Kent had decided to dump football and pump the money into basketball, well, that would have had to happen in 2003. It's thirteen years too late; men's basketball is still solid, but the women's club is a mess.

Time to stay the course.

During the first coaches show with Haynes last week, Nielson said they were working on a $2 million pay game for either next year or the year after. That one game will pay for nearly 10% of the athletic budget. That wouldn't be possible without football. He also stated that basketball pay games are around $200k if I remember right.

Weather delay? How bad is it?

Just kicked up as we were walking in. It was sunny when we parked and just started raining when we got to the gate. Apparently there is potential for lightning and hail.

Also, interesting comment from twitter. It looks like Mitchell is getting the start today?

TWC has a severe thunderstorm watch until 7:00.

The Ohio St game was held up around an hour by the same system. The rain has continued though so once it starts it will be a bit messy.

Game to start about 8:00?

Not likely. Twitter is saying there was a lightning strike at 7:34 so assuming there aren't any more the players can start warming up at 8:04.

And now they removed that tweet... so your guess is as good as mine.

Just heard 8:15 start. Teams on field.

Other than watching #28 for the Aggies this game is very hard to watch.

You can see why NC A&T is a ranked FCS team. They have some talent. And the Flashes offense is beyond woeful again.
