I've always been under the impression it was the private email server that was the issue not the email account itself

Powell used a non state dept email account but did not use a home brewed easily hackable server

He used a personal email account to communicate with friends. He used a secure State Dept computer to manage classified information.

Who cares what Colin Powell did 15 years ago? I didn't even have the email in 2001 and had to go to the university library just to get online and wait 5 minutes for ESPN.com to load just to check scores. There was very little guidence, if any, on cyber security best practices. Technology has evolved a little since then. Has nothing to do with the current environment.

Yea, this email release sounds like the democrats were hoping people were stupid enough not to know the difference between what Powell did and what Hillary did. Given the OP, sounds like they've succeeded in at least one case.

the issue wasnt the private email server per se, it was the communication of classified information over a private email server. I don't think Powell ever advised her to do that.
