What really lost the game for OU was the decision to try the long field goal with the ball at UH's 36 instead of going for it on 4th.
What is this "going for it on 4th" of which you write? Should I infer that a team can try for a first down on 4th down?

I don't mean to imply that we can or should emulate UH's path from 2010 onward. I mean to imply that aggressively seeking the best leadership for a program on the one hand and increased institutional support for a program on the other can both return huge dividends for the program and the university in a relatively short time. I also mean to praise the players and coaches there for their excellent on-field performance.
I agree that UH's willingness to jettison a coach like Levine who was not making the progress that was desired is to be admired.

In Dallas then Austin this weekend. Could somebody cancel my daily cougar subscription (fka as the chronicle) as well as block all the TV channels. I am going to need a red color blocker also.
I really think I am going to heave. To think in November 08, we snockered those bozos. Now miles apart. We should have known better in sept 09 and vs Nichols st.

Haha, sorry I meant trying to get a first down when OU had the ball, 4th and 8 on UH's 36. They were looking at a potential 53 yard field goal attempt. At that time, it was 19-17 in UH's favor. If they don't get the 1st down, at worse (assuming no pick 6), UH gets the ball midway in their territory. Another option would be to take a 5 yard delay of game penalty and try to coffin corner a punt inside UH's 10 yard line. Unless you are Chris Boswell, a 50+ yard field goal is much to ask. I just didn't think a 50+ yard field goal attempt was the right call.

Trailing 14-16 with less than 2:00 to go, LSU has the ball in FG range and decides to pass, interception.

RE: Kickoff weekend - other games
The decision to hire Greenspan was an absolute disaster from the beginning and has only grown more horrible as the years have gone by. The fact that we even got to present to the B12 and made the first cut says a lot about JK and his staff. Yes I think JK should have fired DB after last year but on the whole if we had a competent AD after CDC I don't think we would have been so far behind. The trick now is if UH goes to the B12 (and even if they don't) how does Rice even remain relevant in the Houston market for football.

Remain? Have you watched the local news lately? I'm not sure they even mentioned the loss to WKU. Maybe that's a good thing.

RE: Kickoff weekend - other games
Hogs win by one over La Tech. Tech started their backup QB (because the projected starter had off season legal problems) and played so well the starter never got in. There could have been a late targeting call that knocked him out (but wasn't called of course) and they had to punt and Ark ran out the clock. La Tech lost a lot of starters from last year but looks like they have reloaded quite well. Looks to be another long afternoon in Ruston later this year...think we will skip the return trip.

But the Chronicle had that nice "glory days" article several weeks ago...lol. But your point is well taken.

Given that story vs. coverage of Thursday night, I'll take the glory days article.

100% agree. Probably the worse move in rice history eclipsing even Polk, Heisman, Berndt, and Peterson. This is all on leebron, who never got it and I suspect doesn't care despite what little front he shows. Not until he realized that it affects the overall reputation of the university did he do anything. I suspect all the noise from Cullen blvd of that and this had a lot to do with it. Hope trinity will allow us in their conference. Sadly HRS takes up a lot of valuable real estate.
