USF fans, good visiting fan-friendly places to grab food/drinks pre/postgame
Will be making the trip, looking for a non-hostile place to enjoy the city's eats. Had a bad experience dressed in Bears gear when visiting a Bucs game, would prefer avoiding that again. Must go to places, if necessary, we can bring a change of clothes. Looking forward to the game all!

After you win yell "AAC, AAC, AAC". You will be fine to show up in NIU gear anywhere. Outside of major rivalries, i've never had a horrible experience visiting another team. You always get your few students that yell something unoriginal. Helps to have thick skin.
First usf game I had a young kid followed me from the stadium to my car to taunt. Still laughed at him and we got crushed that game.

Hoping the Bucs fans who attacked my friend were an anomaly. He ended up in the police station with bumps and bruises, all because of a guy yelling alshon jefferies (god that bugs me... jeffery dammit) couldn't hold mike evans jock strap...
Also of course I'll cheer my future conference and rep the AAC =)

Be sure to visit Mons Venus. It's a favorite hang out spot for USF cheerleaders

I would hope there wouldn't be physical altercations. If someone is getting that pissed off over a game just move along. Their life is probably so meaningless it isn't worth it.

I think you will find the USF crowd to be pretty friendly and welcoming of visitors. That said, there can be drunk idiots in any stadium... I hope you have a great time and don't run into any nonsense... Enjoy!

Yes, it's an adult entertainment establishment. Some folks just cant help themselves... every thread has to have smack talk nonsense. ;-)
I don't live in Tampa anymore, so I'll defer to the locals to answer your question... but the channelview area (where the aquarium and Lightning arena is) has really grown into a beautiful entertainment area. And of course Ybor is nearby with restaurants and bars. And the beaches are always awesome.

Stay away from Ybor. Constant shootings and stabbings there and I'm pretty sure one of the players at S. Florida lost his life in a stabbing incident there.
Also stay away from Temple Terrace. That's where the S. Florida campus is but it's surrounded by pawn shops and liquor stores. Not a great area. Plus S. Florida players -- yes, plural -- have shot their guns on campus in celebration of wins so be mindful of the possibility of stray bullets.
I agree about Channelside. Waterfront restaurant views and good atmosphere. I would go there.

Ybor should be fine during the day, but i agree that you should avoid it late at night.
I recommend stopping by Cigar City - great craft brewery somewhat near the stadium.

Tampa is a very dangerous city. High crime...particularly near the USF *campus.
There is a lot of bad indian and Thai restaurants nearby. I would try them as they are better than anything else the locals eat (unless you like Gator Tail and raccoon) If you go into any other restaurant in the area in your NIU garb you will be threatened or harassed...or propositioned by one of the local prostitutes looking for a clean John. (the locals do not bathe)
Hope this helps and have a great visit to USF!!!

It's just another of the USF-obsessed minority of Knights fans... If they see 'USF' in a thread, no matter what's it about, they have to jump on and hurl insults like kiddies... apparently nothing better to do. I'd explain their obsession, but then they would go full nuclear. Ignore it.
Gotcha. Kinda like that Marshall fan that literally stalks me on here bashing anything NIU, no matter what is being discussed. I understand perfectly! Having been around the team, the USF and SDSU games are circled on their calendar and they are HYPED. Two very good, nationally recognized teams for the Huskies to challenge and get national recognition themselves, those are the games they live for! I hope your guys are ready for a handful, and don't throw towards Shawunn Lurry! The tOSU QBs learned that the hard way

If your looking for good beer, I agree with Cigar City. I am a big fan of their IPA (Jai Lai), but they've got a number of excellent brews.
If you're looking for water front views and seafood while you're down here, I would recommend a 30 min drive over to Clearwater Beach. Unfortunately, there is not much of that in Tampa proper.

Stay Cool,
Plenty of awesome spots to grab a drink and food in either Channelside or Downtown. You can park and walk around until you see a spot you want to check out. If you want to hangout with college kids/younger adults you can go to SOHO off of Kennedy Blvd and South Howard. It's a strip of bars/clubs. Some are low key if you just want to grab a beer and not be surrounded by a bunch of drunk people. If you're staying longer I suggest visiting Clearwater or St. Petersburg for some beach action.

Hey, a girls got to pay her way through college somehow.... and if you can do it at Mons, then you must be SMOKING hot. That place is considered to be one of the top 10 "Gentlemens clubs" in the US.
I know a couple of the ladies that work there, so if any NIU fans want to stop by, Ill give ya their stage names and you can get a little extra special treatment. (and no, they wont do that...)
