How right you are!
LOL. As we all know the Pac-12 has no current interest in expansion, and even if that were to change UH has a LOT of work to do to even get on the conference's radar screen. It's good that our academics are where they need to be to be acceptable to the Pac-12, but we need to grow our endowment substantially and our football program needs time to recover from the four-year Norm Chow disaster.
It is worth pointing out though that when Pac-12 games are played on Friday and Saturday nights on the west coast it's still early the next day in Australia. However if those games were played in Honolulu they could be shown on Saturday and Sunday afternoons Down Under, and probably draw much better audiences (especially given that UH has multiple Australian players on both its football and basketball teams). Just sayin...

Thus, the marketing opportunity is to schedule a few Hawai'i vs. Saint Mary's basketball games and get an Aussie TV deal for those games.

Hawaii in the PAC-14 North? Only makes sense if UCONN is in the Big 12 South...

Looks like FOX may be winning the battle for the heart of the PAC.

PAC12 TV Deal w/Australia
Hawaii is the southernmost state in the union, so I'd swap them and put Hawaii in the South and UNLV in the North.

The two biggest TV markets the PAC does not have out west are the Hawaii and Las Vegas TV markets.
They need UNLV to pull a Houston and build up to a 40,000 students and push that endowment past the 500 million line. Its possible in 10 years I suppose.

Better with the PAC North schools all near the coast than the south with intermountain region schools.

It's a little-known fact that, due to the shape of the California coast with the northern half of the state bending toward the west, it's actually a shorter flight from Honolulu to San Francisco than it is from Honolulu to Los Angeles. Moreover flights to Portland and Seattle are hours shorter than flights to Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Denver. Also UH has played a lot of games (both football and non-football) with Oregon and Washington Pac-12 schools in recent years, and has more scheduled in the future. So you're correct that the Pac-12 North is a better fit, FWIW.

Three if you count Vancouver, British Columbia's tv market.

UNLV should be with the So Cal and Arizona schools and Utah.
Colorado, as an institution, probably is most similar to Cal, Oregon, and Washington; and Denver is pretty far from everyone in the conference, as far as driving distances go.
The Oregon schools and Washington St. are furthest from major airports, so not super convenient for Hawaii, even if closer to the Pacific Coast.
So, move Colorado to the North and Hawaii and UNLV to the South.
NORTH: Stanford, Cal, Oregon, OSU, Washington, WSU, Colorado
SOUTH: USC, UCLA, UNLV, Arizona, ASU, Utah, Hawaii

RE: PAC12 TV Deal w/Australia
Or, ignore academics and culture and go after the money: also add BYU and Boise St.
NORTH: Oregon, OSU, Washington, WSU
SOUTH: Arizona, ASU, UNLV, Hawaii
EAST: Colorado, Utah, BYU, Boise St.
WEST: USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal
The best scenario would be to change the CCG rules and play a 9-game conference schedule using the 3-2-2-2 subdivision format. That gets everyone in the conference a game in California each year and ensures that everyone plays each other at least every other year.
If you can't change the current CCG rules, rotate the subdivisions every two years to form 8-school divisions. Preserves the main rivalries. If you stack the divisions and cross-division schedules correctly, you can play everyone in conference at least twice in 6 years and most schools at least 3 times in that span. Everyone would get at least four games in California in the 6 years.
Years 1 & 2: NORTH-EAST and SOUTH-WEST
Years 3 & 4: NORTH-WEST and SOUTH-EAST
Years 5 & 6: NORTH-SOUTH and EAST-WEST

They also don't have San Diego. And it's not even close.
San Diego is more than twice the size of Hawai'i. It's almost the same size as Vancouver and Las Vegas combined. If you're going for markets, I'd go for SDSU before Hawai'i or Las Vegas any day of the week.

Pretty sure USC and UCLA give the PAC the full benefit of San Diego from its network perspective...except on DirecTV.

Also SDSU doesn't get the conference three time zones closer to Australia and Asia. UH does.

Hawaii has the best research west of the Great Plains, along with CO St.
Maybe one day ...

It's also worth pointing out that the fact that it's live sport available at a consistent time fairly early Sunday morning is part of the point of the deal ... it is extra live sport, when more popular live sports will be on the times later in the day when more viewers are available. They wouldn't waste a prime Sunday afternoon timeslot on "gridiron"!
