Did they even file a report? I was under the impression that they made the claim in the press and the police then began investigating. Is that not correct? Then, Rio compounded it by siezing passports, stopping the swimmers as they tried to board their plane, and finally arresting the swimmers---for a fairly minimal crime---which makes their city look like an even less inviting place to visit.

Essentially, YouTube people can video random crimes that the police don't even try to control----but the police have all the time in the world to chase down some swimmers who embellished an incident where they had a gun pulled on them because they broke a door.

The swimmers look bad. Rio looks bad. The IOC looks bad. Time to get the Olympics the hell out of the third world.

They all knew about the Rio crime situation, they chose to go out of the compound and party and put themselves in a situation at the gas station. They paid them off got out, didn't reported to police and then decided to tell a reporter. All dumb moves.

All I can say is this is one F***ed up situation.

Agree that let's try and get all of the facts out but what the hell are you doing out on the Rio town that is known for crime until 6 AM reportedly drunk? You're representing your country's olympic athletes in a foreign land. Don't put yourself in that situation in the first place. Lochte knew he effed up and made sure he bolted out of Dodge right away. His other three swimming buddies weren't so lucky.

I have traveled all over the world as well, run into trouble twice once cost me 2500, the other nothing but scared the crap out of me. Been to 75 counties in 47 years. You always keep your mouth shut and do what they say if not I assure you it will not end well.
