Why did Pitt go away from these? Whoever made that decision has surely been fired right? It's time to go back to these permanently, these are awesome!

Well... winning makes any look a hit. Those were great teams.

And those Pitt Panthers really gave a boost to Florida State football. Bobby Bowden was coaching a Cinderella independent in Florida's Big Bend and starting to get a reputation as a giant killer. Nebraska agreed to multiple games against the Seminoles, and so did LSU... but all the games had to be at their place.

Pittsburgh had a football program that was everything Florida State's aspired to be. Unlike the Seminoles, they had already earned a national title, a perfect season, a Heisman Trophy winner... and were in the hunt every year to do it all again.

And unlike almost every other team at the top, they agreed to play the Seminoles home-and-home. They flew down to Tallahassee and took the field in our erector-set stadium and played us in the rain. They didn't have to. But they did.

Our win over them in Pittsburgh helped put us on the map. Their win over us in our place helped put Dan Marino on the map. Each side took its punishment in the series, but in the end everybody won.

I was thrilled when Pitt was invited into the ACC. And what a kick it was to see all those great Pitt veterans present at Heinz Field when Florida State played the Panthers as their first-ever in-conference ACC opponent.

For all that... I personally like the navy and gold. It's classic, Pitt. It's got authority, it's a winner, it's you. I say keep those colours as your standard and let other teams adjust.

But however you choose to suit up, I'm glad to see you in our conference.

Can they get more money from Heinz if they stick with mustard yellow?

These are actually more 1990s Pitt than 1970s or 1980s Pitt. They're more the light blue and yellow vs. the mustard color a lot of Pitt fans clamour for.

Still, our uniforms are on par these days. Going back to the script was huge for Pitt and this throwback is a nice addition to the rest of the uniforms. After October 8, Narduzzi is going to let the players pick the uniforms so we may well see this look more than once this year.
