Of course...it's the principal of the matter. Kid doesn't have to be so intrepid showing his lack of interest.

Here's an example. We all know SF is perhaps months away from a more prestigious job offer correct? At the same time, NIU offers him a four year contract extention for which SF reluctantly signs. At the press conference, he tells the media "Ya well the contact is nice, but what I'm really excited for is a P5 school to come buy out my contract so I can be into better things. But this will do in the meantime. "
It just doesn't depict class and the coach knows better. You might see it as honestly, I see it as being ungrateful. That's the same dude who transfers out of NIU his first year because he wasn't a starter his freshman season. It's a matter of respect.

OK, so let me see if I understand.

You're OK with STF lying because it shows class.

But you're not OK with a 17 year old high school kid telling the truth because it doesn't show class?

Yes, that is correct.

You can look at it as just lying, but it is also called commitment. This ******* feels shunned. He does NOT feel he has something to prove. He feels he HAS proved himself. I would even put the probability at more than 50% he gets no other offer, and about 75% he doesn't complete 4 yrs at NIU if he enrolls. Obviously not a kid who has all the talent in the world or else he would be signed somewhere else. He acts humbled, but people see through it. If he does go to a P5 he will be in the mix and likely have no idea how to deal with those with at least the same, if not more talent. And at least some will have their head screwed on straight. He'll be at Jefferson St. CC if he is lucky.

He will also probably commit domestic abuse, academic fraud and take illegal booster support if he's willing to give a verbal commitment while still keeping his options open. You sure are shredding this kids integrity for whom you don't know. It sounds like this is all new to him and he's figuring it out as he goes. This so-called want to be at NIU is not Some magic litmus test. For many kids NIU's just the best or only offer they received. That's why they "want" to be a Huskie.
You're the one jumping from transfering to implicating the kid with violent crime.

It's not unreasonable to assume someone who's whole goal is to get the most "prestige" and doesn't seem to base his decision on much else, has a higher likelihood of not sticking with the team when things aren't always self serving. Very valid argument. You're throwing a tantrum and adding nonsense.

Tell me when SF lied...
Did he say "I am not going to leave NIU under any circumstance" or does he simply avoid taking about other employment opportunities when asked? The first, lying. The latter, showing respect to an institution he still works hard to improve. To state voluntarily, regardless if he is thinking it, he is waiting for a better option is crap.

Rabid Squirrel, next time you're slamming some super China buffet go up to dude eating his third plate and call him a fata**. When he throws his Mr pibb in your face just say to him "what? I'm just being honest. You want me to lie?."

And this isn't applying for a place of employment to feed your families. You go in on your own time to watch tape on how to flip burgers because you want to get better at it.

No disrespect but I'm guessing the ones who are hard core disagreement with me didn't play here.

If I'm correct, NIU32 played before me. I played right before everything took off. To have a kid commit to niu who had an offer from illinois was unheard of. If dude had two or the other mac offers he was a monster. We always had a chip on our shoulder and couldn't have come from humbler roots. It's a tradition. This is the reason I believe my school to be special, the reason I'm on this board, and the reason my supervisors know I will not work the day off a game.

Side note: I was no stud recruit but two days before signing day I received offers from Georgia Tech and NW. I believed Novak and good ol Sabock put time and energy into me so I stuck.

So as someone who came from humble roots, was part of the transition to what you now know NIU to be, hell even risked his life for his institution, I want to see something more from recruits regardless of what every other kids in the country are doing. I want more Tuckers and Rowells. Read Rowells comments after committing to NIU and ask yourself who you want on your team and who's likely to stick.

This rant would have felt so much better if I could swear.

Have NIU coaches ever changed their mind on a verbal commitment of a player? Do the coaching staff have more verbal commitments that scholarships?

Everybody knows a verbal commitment is nothing until the signing day signature. It is a two way street, a verbal commitment or an offer can be pulled at any time.
How many schollys have your heard of that NIU pulled from a committed player because they might have access to a better player? Give me one person they did this to and I will shut up. Behavioral issues yes...but a kid they just dropped out of nowhere. Just name one and I'm done... Do you think that issue just hasn't arised? Why don't you hear that happening from the coaches end I wonder?

Everyone's missing my point. If he feels a different school is better for him and he decomits then God bless him. He does not need to openly celebrate how much he wants to play for a superior school.

What I remember Ingold was pretty mum when it came to WI offering him as a niu commit. And when he did decomits and move on, he gave niu is due respect and didn't openly speak of inferiority as the issue. To me, difference is night and day.

If only he had the Huskie devotion of a Dave Doeren or Jerry Kill, right? I get what you're saying about hyping NIU in one sentence, and then talking about leaving his options open in the next. But verbal commits aren't truly commitments. I'm sure he's thrilled to have a chance to play for NIU, but all his attention came suddenly and he has no idea what his ceiling is yet. My real point is you shouldn't trash the Kid's character based on this and what you experienced. Every kid is different and to stereotype him for one action is unfair. The domestic violence stuff was obvious sarcasm based on defining this kid's life because of a verbal commitment.

And those dudes with 2 or 3 other Mac offers who were monsters...good chance they were also just better football players than the kids with no offers.

Where is he openly celebrating anything? The only direct quote from him in the entire article about it is “I'm still going to see what offers are there". That's pretty innocuous, most of the Mizzou stuff appears to be inserted by the writer, not direct quotes from the kid.

If anything, at least based on the quotes, his coach seems more enamored with Mizzou than the kid does, which isn't surprising given the coach played at Mizzou. That's probably where the Mizzou slant is coming from (in addition to it being a St. Louis paper).

Your words, not mine and "wants" makes me laugh. He is settling. And upon reading it again, sounds like the coach is making a pitch for better things (which is fine) and the writer was more than happy to give him a platform. Like "Hey Mizzou fans, look at this kid, who had issues in the past, is under the radar, and your school is passing up."

Poor taste all around IMO.

OK I'm over it. Got it out of my system. I respect everyone's opinion on the matter but still stand on my previous thoughts. Took me a little by surprise when reading. I tend to get a little grumpy the last few weeks of August...
