RE: Big 12 Contacts Connecticut to Discuss Possible Interest in Expansion
Supposedly Mark Blaudschun will have a follow up article relatively soon.

As an aside, what is transpiring has followed with relative rigidity the process outlined by the Big 12. The target schools sit and wait. Contact is made. Negotiations begin.

For example, the Temple AD used remarkably similar language as the UConn AD over the weekend.

"But Benedict said he has no plans to pick up the phone and call Bowlsby or head to Texas with a PowerPoint presentation.

He said it's his understanding that the Big 12 will reach out to those it knows have an interest."

So it appears that UConn has been contacted. Rumors over on the BYU board that contact with that school has been initiated. Perhaps Cincy and Houston might be next.

That explains all the parachutes over ESPN... those must be the Athletes and Executives landing since we don't have a functional airport in CT.

Connecticutt seems a little bit outside the Sun Belt's footprint.

I've heard the Patriot league is sniffing around.

Been a lot of sniffing around. A lot. I'd even call it snorting.
Cheers!

UConn will never get in. Screw Fox Sports. They suck at any sports coverage. You are seeing this as a fight between Fox and ESPN. Do you think ESPN wants UConn going to the Big 12? That would put Fox Sports in their backyard. Same with UCF.

Here's a grammar pet peeve from the Temple AD: "Whatever happens, if one, two, three [AAC teams leave], we still have a lot of really strong school and we will continue to build. It's not like it will decimate us." Well, if you lose more than a tenth of your membership, that actually is the meaning of the word decimate.

As many recall when we (the Big XII) got serious again about Louisville, the ACC pounced on them. So maybe we're "just doing a solid" for UConn.

Or maybe ...

Wait, so Bradley Intl isn't large enough? It is 37 miles / 45 min away. Don't you think most visiting teams would likely stay in the Hartford area anyway and bus in?

UConn's football stadium is IN Hartford. There might be other issues with UConn and the B12, but the size of the airport is not one of them.

Although it shows how little I know about UConn football, it certainly makes any criticism of the airport moot. Thanks!

Yeah: Boise State = easy access to the school from the airport.
UConn= Not an easy access from the airport for all sports.

If you noticed all the schools taken from MWC/Big East/AAC have to do with airports, not just tv markets alone.

When Louisville was rejected by the Big 12 in favor of West Virginia, the Maryland departure only then put Louisville on the ACC's radar.

In hindsight, if the Big 12 had taken both West Virginia and Louisville, one would have more geographic comparability in the Big 12. But the ACC in taking Louisville off the board in a small way did damage the Big 12.

In the same sense, if the ACC suddenly took UConn, the Big 12's perception of being wounded would be hard not to notice.

BE4evah actually does make me laugh. He's been indirectly trolling Uconn since 2011on here. His lasting ability is impressive.

^this. I've never seen a guy who hates a school more than BE4evah hates Uconn
With that said I can't resist reading his posts. He is quite an effective troll.

Yup...actually a strength as it is a much larger airport than most P5 schools have nearby. Airport is about 20 mins to the Rent.

Good luck to UConn.
I hope it happens for them.
They have a great fan base and program.
They deserve the opportunity to get to a P5 conference.

And with the successful test run of skydiving without a parachute into a net over the weekend, UConn can save on parachute costs.
