UConn is underrated IMO.

If the Big 12 (or Big 10) doesn't pick 'em up, I think they go indy in football and park their other sports in the Big East.

RE: Big 12 Contacts Connecticut to Discuss Possible Interest in Expansion
I posted this on the AAC board. Fox has been desperate for East of the Mississippi content. Fox can get the big12 to grab Houston, Cincy, Uconn, Temple, Memphis, UCF,which is basically stealing the last valuable properties eastward and make espn pay half the bill. That more than doubles the big12 footprint. For that fox can create their network even without Texas. The 6 new teams are then adding tremendous value Ala Rutgers/Maryland. An eastern division would also allow the Texas schools to stay in the same division for rivalries. Byu is out if fox is driving this but fox could then help the pac12 network if they took byu and bsu. Fox would have 1/2BIG10,1/2BIG12,PAC12,NEW BIGEAST. That would then make them as powerful as espn (along with taking their teams, money)

You can tell when it's a pro athlete compared to a college kid. The pro athletes always have there fancy parachutes out and expect to be caught when they land...or so I heard.

I'm not sure you understand where the B1G saw value in Rutgers and Maryland. It wasn't about footprint or markets as much as it was because of the huge number of B1G alumni living in those areas. I don't think the Big XII has a similar dynamic in these markets.

I think Maryland and Rutgers really value was in the number of cable boxes.

Exactly. Anyone who tries to argue otherwise just doesn't know what they're talking about. Rutgers and Maryland were about additional carriage fees.

Ask the ACC fanboys on this board how well that'll go over in ACC-land.

Although it shows how little I know about UConn football, it certainly makes any criticism of the airport moot. Thanks!

Cheers!

Yeah: Boise State = easy access to the school from the airport.
UConn= Not an easy access from the airport for all sports.

If you noticed all the schools taken from MWC/Big East/AAC have to do with airports, not just tv markets alone.

You come up with some out there stuff, but this is just silly.

ESPN will not allow. 4 AAC schools be taken from the AAC to the Big 12. It would weaken the tv product for ESPN. I would see Cincinnati and Memphis going to the Big 12. Adding Boise State and BYU would make ESPN happy. ESPN would have all rights to their games in the Big 12. It is a battle between ESPN and Fox on who they want in the Big 12.

TBF, that is just a side effect of the talks with the new Big East, since UConn would need somewhere to park their FB team, but I'd still take them. Heck, even take UMass back FB-only to pair with them, if they wanted a more local rival.

The MAC won't extend any offers for football only schools. On!y way they will take in a school is if it is for all sports. I have heard suggestions that UMass, Temple, Cincy, Memphis and UConn might be the targets if the AAC implodes. But in reality it would likely only be 1 or 2 schools since others would have been scooped up by the Power 5 in such a scenario.

If the big12 wants 4 or even 6 contractual there isn't a thing that espn can do about it. If fox makes it worth it to the big12 they could literally steal the AAC and make espn pay for half the bill.

They can implode the conference once the current contract is up and leave everyone but Texas and Oklahoma behind.

See 2010/2011 Big East negotiations for prior example of what happens when not doing what your tv partner recommends.

The Big 12 is interested in Arkansas Tech since they can't get Arkansas.

I do think that the MAC would not normally take a FB-only school, due to the demonstrated instability of two of the last three ... but they made the offer to Temple FB-only for strong reasons, which would pretty much also apply to UConn.

What makes it a joke rather than a serious suggestion is not the MAC side, but the new Big East side. There's absolutely no reason for the new Big East to deliberately expose themselves to the risk of being impacted by FB conference realignment, after successfully navigating an escape.

All of these suggestions appear to be a bit disconnected from reality.

To answer your four schools in question in order:
-No
-No
-We will take you back with conditions
-H*ll No!

As a MAC fan, I have ZERO interest in UConn due to:

-A flight risk
-Would NOT Play MAC Basketball schools on the road
-Possible Marshall-Level Brain Damage on the Football side(From the fans)
-UConn soccer not playing NIU/Akron consistently
-The Big East giving an Ultimatum in a few years of "Drop Football down to FCS,, or get kicked out there and the MAC saying no thanks, enjoy true Independence for all sports"

Only way they take UConn too is if they are going nuclear (i.e. to 16 teams).

Add Cincy/Memphis/UConn to WVU...add Houston to keep strong Texas fulcrum for conference...add CSU and BYU in West (or USF/UCF in SE).

That's a pretty effective AAC takeover for the Big 12...and will keep them stable after OU/UT/KU defect in 2023.
