The ISPs still control things. You can pay YouTube TV $35 for access to the channels, but you'll have to pay Comcast or Verizon $90 to access the internet. You're back to the same or similar place.

You'd have to think satellite or cellular will disintermediate at some point. But that will not be without cost. Sucks, because you can clearly see a path to inexpensive "cable TV".

Comcast internet only was $49 a month when I had that. Very interested in Youtube TV

Dont know how long ago that was, but seems like a lot has changed. I had an option of getting an internet only package for $80 and the cable/internet for $90. That was within the year when I moved back to Comcast from FiOS.

Will be very interested to see how all of this plays out.

At the end of the JMU/Elon WBB game, the commentators had a similar tone in their "thanks for the memories" commentary. They sound like the CAA likely won't have a relationship with CSN moving forward.

With most cell phone plans now offering affordable "unlimited" data (including long-time holdout Verizon) and iphone hotspot tethering, its only a matter of time before a significant dent in hard-wired cable internet starts a process change. Aside from harcore gaming or professional business, you can do pretty much everything including streaming this way.

Yeah, I noticed that too. They kept mentioning this year, but their tone indicated more

I recall 20 or so years ago the CAA had to pay something like 20K a broadcast to get on Home Team Sports.

ASN is not dead, but being rebranded next year. That's good news. This isn't good news:

"The network will still have some live events, but Shapiro said they will no longer be the focus. The network will provide post-game highlights and long-form programming. The network will also have access to full game archives."

I'm sorry but live sports are why we all bother to tune in to begin with. You're destined to fail as a network if you don't provide the consumer with what they are looking for in terms of content.

Like Potomac said, live sports is about the only reason to watch. Post game highlights can be found just about anywhere for free.

I joined SlingTV for a short period of time, I believe to watch a JMU football game and really liked it. When and if sites like that can figure out a way to offer more consistent choices, they will put a butt woopin' on cable sports programing like ASN and CSN.

Agree. Cell transmission of all phone/cable/internet as we know it is right around the corner. Its also why companies like American Tower and Crown Castle seem like slam dunk investments.

You've got to be kidding me. No TV deal in sight for the CAA and it's already May. Not a good sign at all.

All I want is to pay $9.99/month for a streaming service that ACTUALLY works. Screw TV at this point.

Yes I am in the same boat. If you provide me with a league wide, as many sports as possible subscription service for a modest monthly or annual cost, I will not hesitate to subscribe to that.

All I ask is that it's as close to ESPN3 quality as possible. It needs to have every home CAA FB, MBB, WBB and at least some baseball and softball, at minimum.

We had that for about three seasons when we were partnered with Neulion.

Yep. It was pretty good.

Now, after many years of crappy stretch internet, and the same issues persist. I don't know how/why JMU puts up with the constant horrible service.

Regarding the bold. That's about the way I would describe it, "pretty good". It was a tad bit grainy but always reliable and none of the jumping/skipping/freezing we've been getting since leaving.

One point that gets mentioned to potential recruits (mostly basketball) is " x- number of our home games are televised on X network" X-number of those games are on national TV.

"Though JMU uses its in-house MadiZone to stream games, if the game is not on television, fans might be more inclined to see it in person.

Bourne said while there’s nothing like a live event, he expects the CAA to announce a television deal soon.

“I do,” Bourne said. “I know they’re working and we have a president’s meeting [this week] in Philadelphia for the athletic directors, and I think shortly there after they’d release the [television] schedule.”"

Having a couple of ROKU's (and getting ready to ditch regular cable altogether), I was pretty happy with the CAA app. I even found myself watching a few other JMU events that I wouldn't have tuned into if I had to sit in front of the computer to view.
