Dude, you're behind the times; my handle used to be aac4life, but I ended up being banned. Before I was banned, I made allusions to coming back as an ACC troll. Some people picked up on it; you obviously didn't. To bring you up to speed: I am an ex VaTech football fan, who vehemently hates them now, since they left the Big East. I also detest the ACC. The whole handle is a trollific double entendre; tragically ironic, I know.

I thought you were the one on your way out the door to the Big 12? Get comfy, because I have a hunch you'll be hanging out here for a few more years or longer.

RE: AAC Media Contract
(07-28-2016 04:22 PM)MWC Tex Wrote:  It seems that EPSN had to match the whole contract details of NBC. Including the Group A/B tiers NBC had.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/...ng-sources

"The seven-year deal included a stipulation that it could be terminated if the league lost two more schools, sources said. ESPN could only match NBC Sports Network's deal and not change the language of the contract, sources said.

NBC Sports Network's contract divided the league into Group A (Connecticut, Cincinnati, Houston and Temple) and Group B (the remaining members), sources said.

The media rights deal can be terminated if either two Group A schools leave or one Group A and one Group B school leave. If two Group B schools leave, the contract will be renegotiated, sources said. This does not include any schools that already have announced they are leaving, such as Louisville, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh or Syracuse."

The bolded part is the key. ESPN could not change the contract NBC offered.

True, ESPN could not change the language, but the termination of the deal is OPTIONAL, keyword is can. Based on ESPN's long standing relationship with members in the AAC, I highly doubt they pull the plug. Also, with FOX, NBC, and CBS accumulating more inventory across their OTA and cable offerings, ESPN needs quality G5 inventory, therefore IMO, an AAC with ECU, Memphis, Navy, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UCF, UCONN, and USF is still greater than the current MWC, CUSA, MAC, and SBC based on school name recognitions alone.

IMO, ESPN is more likely to have influence over AAC expansion vs terminating the deal. Such a caveat would be good news for blue bloods such as S.Miss, UTEP, and Marshall. If given a voice, IMO ESPN would likely push for more name recognition and pedigree vs bigger TV markets and less name recognition such as Rice, UTSA, Charlotte or Old Dominion.

I don't see Army giving up their Independence. If I'm not mistaken, Army turned down an invite when Houston and SMU were added, when the AAC was still the Big East. Also, at a time when the conference was more stable and the guarantee of an annual game in Texas (SMU or Houston). Don't forget, Army and Navy heavily recruit Texas.

I predict the AAC will pursue S.Miss if only (1) school leaves, or S.Miss, UTEP if (2) schools leave. Also, regardless of what happens with football expansion, I believe Wichita State will be offered full membership. It will take WSU 3-4 years to be FBS ready from inception and by that time the AAC may look completely different, or the AAC simply deals with the WSU's FBS growing pains. Wichita State athletics experience greater fan support than a number of AAC schools, have forwarding thinking administrators, and great donor backing from The Koch Brothers. IMO banking on WSU football is worth the risk based on said support.

I am not sold the Big 12 Presidents want to deal with BYU politics or a watered down Big 12, thus I predict Houston and Cincinnati become members 11 & 12.

* while VCU seems like a sexy addition, they don't have football aspirations and would be a longshot to give up the A-10 for the AAC.
This nonsense will always be about Football, other than the Sun Belt (UT-Arlington), no FBS conference has answered expansion by adding a non-football playing school since the dominoes started falling with Penn State, Florida State, Arkansas, and South Carolina back in early 90's.

RE: AAC Media Contract
The AAC only will have 3 years left on the deal. I doubt ESPN will want to crack it open. but who really knows. Right now ESPN has a real bargain in the AAC and they know it. Until we know what B12 does, we don't have any idea how the AAC will be affected. Does it lose 1, 2, 3, or 4?

The AAC will work with ESPN on who they would add. I doubt UTEP gets in , even though they are a good school they are too far west to come by themselves. Right now they fit the MWC better.

My guess is if we lose two or three ESPN will leave the contract alone but make us move some games to mid week.

RE: AAC Media Contract
Ive explained this before but Ill do it again...

ESPN holds TWO contracts. The AAC and the Big 12.

Does anybody know legally what happens if a contract holder ends up helping one party in a manner that harms the other? This same situation played out when Colorado left for the Pac12, Texas A&M to teh sec and Nebraskas left for the Big 10. ESPN held contracts with all and increased the Pac12s income and the big 10s.... in response, they told the Big 12 to add 2 more teams and that they would leave the old contract (which was paying for 12 teams) the same even though there was only 10.

This kept ESPN from violating any contracts. I dont see the AAC losing money over the next three years and theres a chance we could lose 3, just add 1 and keep the contract as is. Way cheaper for ESPN to do that then pay for a legal fight.
