Exactly the article I was looking for - I didn't think to search for Big East instead of AAC. Thanks!
If it doesn't work out with BYU, I wonder if the Big XII goes after Temple. NBC obviously thought they more valuable than the rest of the conference, and they would bridge the gap between WVU and UConn. Money talks!
Wouldn’t that be a kick in the nuts if it was Houston, Cincy, UConn and Temple for all sports?
UConn, Temple, and Cincy join WVU to make up a strong eastern presence and the Texas politicians are all happy with Houston.
Sadly, we all know that could never happen.

That's my dream scenario, but I'm a biased old BE fan. I also really did want the BE to invite Houston for a very long time. Memphis too. Stupid C7 messed up everything.

This would be a solid add by the B12 and a huge (said in a Trump voice) hit on the AAC. I'm hoping they expand by two by adding BYU and Houston but I'm thinking they are going to steal three from the AAC: Houston, Cincy, and Mystery Team X

Compared to the silly Internet rumors being thrown around it seems way more logical to invite schools with large markets when you are the only conference still trying to create a conference network.
I wouldn't write it off completely just yet.

I wish I could be optimistic but the words "logical" and "the Big12" have rarely collided in the same sentence lately.

RE: AAC Media Contract
The whole tier thing was something that NBC/Comcast put into the contract. ESPN didnt request it at all. All ESPN did was match the offer. Theres been no indication that ESPN would cancel or modify the contract and ill tell you why.
1. Who owns the contracts to the AAC and Big 12?
Legally speaking they cant help the Big 12 get bigger and pay them more while harming another contract holder. The same situation happened when they helped move Colorado and Utah into the PAC. They had to agree to keep the Big 12 contract the same.
So no, I dont think were in dire straights.... I actually think we could be in a good position. Right now, 22 MWC football games are on ESPN. 6 are Boise St. The rest are buried on CBS Sports net, but overall less than half of the leagues games get covereage. Part of that is that nobody watches teams like Wyoming.... Utah State and San Jose st also get horrific ratings. This would be a prime opportunity for ESPN to come in, merge whats left of the AAC and the best parts of the MWC and sign a new deal.
We could get something done in 2017, and get a small bump. I honestly do not think it would be more than $4-5 million a year but it would again be a short contract of maybe 7 years. What it would do though is set us further ahead of all other G5 and then we can attempt to push for maybe some considerations, like an increase in playoff money and maybe a more prestigious champ game.

If they take 3 schools from "Group A", you'd be lucky to get half that.

Well, we will have $30,000,000 in exit fees

well have more than that, unless they all three want to wait for 27 months. Id guess they would end up paying at least $15 million a piece. $10 for the exit fee and $5 to decrease the waiting period.
and as I explained, the whole group A thing was a comcast/nbc request.... NOT espn. ESPN offered us less money and didnt ask for any of that tier stuff. So they matched the NBC deal just to get us because it was cheap.
I still think ESPN may merge the two conferences in some way. It helps them cut out the undesirable content.
and I doubt the Pac 12 is just sitting back and watching all of this. There are plenty of ways that Texas and crew can leave the Big 12, even with a GOR.

Better be real stingy about all exit fees because if the AAC loses 3 ESPN will rip that TV deal to shreds and leave us making even fewer peanuts than we already do.

If you read the post above yours you'll see that the contingency clause was with NBC only and not ESPN; sorry, my friend, but there will be no contract ripping to shreds going on here.

It seems that EPSN had to match the whole contract details of NBC. Including the Group A/B tiers NBC had.
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/...ng-sources
"The seven-year deal included a stipulation that it could be terminated if the league lost two more schools, sources said. ESPN could only match NBC Sports Network's deal and not change the language of the contract, sources said.
NBC Sports Network's contract divided the league into Group A (Connecticut, Cincinnati, Houston and Temple) and Group B (the remaining members), sources said.
The media rights deal can be terminated if either two Group A schools leave or one Group A and one Group B school leave. If two Group B schools leave, the contract will be renegotiated, sources said. This does not include any schools that already have announced they are leaving, such as Louisville, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh or Syracuse."
The bolded part is the key. ESPN could not change the contract NBC offered.
