I don’t remember the exact details of the deal I just remember Houston, Cincinnati, UConn and Temple were tier 1 schools and if I remember correctly if the AAC loses two of those programs ESPN has the right to cancel the current deal and open up renegotiations. Someone help me out with the details here.

In any event, if that happens I don’t see a cash strapped ESPN who just committed to an ACC network passing on the opportunity to cut some cost from there bottom line. If the contract is opened back up or renegotiated down how attractive would that unknown be to MWC programs looking to join? Based on what happened with the MAC and CUSA contracts would the AAC even end up being that much of a step up financially for them?

that was for nbcsport, there is 0% chance espn lowers the price...if espn used this as leverage theyd most likely try to use this as a way to lock us in at 2 mil long term

and ill make it simple, if we lose more than 1 we arent getting mwc teams,

Serious or troll? Either way comical.

ESPN had to except the same deal that NBCSports had so the clause is still in there. You'd have to lose 2 with at least one coming from the group listed above to terminate. If two from the rest (group B) and none from group A leave then the contract can be renegotiated. Whether ESPN does I think depends on who and how many leave and who replaces them.

Unfortunately we will be in big trouble. No Cusa team will bring anynvalue to this league, they in fact will cause us to loose value. Hopefully we get Army to join and srop yhe bleeding at a 10 member AAC conf.

That actually would be a good move by the AAC. You lose a lot, but if you add Army it would be probably the best choice. They aren't great athletically, but name recognition and academics are better than anyone else. AAC would take a huge hit, but dropping to 10 teams would ease the likely loss in revenue on future TV contracts. Then things basically stay the same.

RE: so, who are we losing?
If I were the Big 12, I would (in no particular order):

- add Cincinnati (creates a travel partner and neighbor for WVU)
- add UConn (shores up a new region which includes NYC for a possible future Big 12 network and provides another close school for WVU and Cincy)
- add Temple (gives UConn company in the northeast and gives you the massive Philly TV market)
- add BYU *or* Memphis. BYU offers a big football following, but it creates a third time zone issue, though. They could go with Memphis instead if they want to keep everything in two time zones.
- kick Baylor out of the Big 12 and replace them with Houston. Houston is a bigger school, a public school, and resides in a bigger market. That way, the Big 12 gets an upgrade in Texas and in-state competition for recruits stays about the same.

Done.

I'd do number five FIRST immediately (and have the Coogs join for THIS YEAR), then do the other four steps in the order listed. COGS

That makes perfect sense, but the issue is from what I understand Army has pretty much has an open invitation to join and hasn’t accepted the invitation. If Army doesn’t see value in joining a full strength AAC I just don’t see them joining after we lose one of our most valuable members.

That was my understanding as well, it was part of the NBCSN deal that ESPN accepted.

I did not know the truth was "hate"... As bad as Buffalo has been in football for the past 6 seasons NIU has been even more moribund in hoops.

I suspect NIU is more a front runner than Buffalo but it depends on what the university presidents of the AAC do when it comes to ranking priorities. It could be, if the AAC gets eviscerated that they add just Army and we both stay in the MAC.

RE: so, who are we losing?
Cincy will be one of the two teams I would strongly assume.

After that, I'd guess it is 1-3 of:

- BYU (FB Only)
- Houston
- Memphis
- UCF (FB Only?)

I'll agree we could both be left high and dry. Hell they could lose just 1 team and backfill with USM... which would frustrate me but nevertheless it could happen
