If FIU was in lightly recruited rural areas like Huntington, Hattisburg, Ruston, etc. they would get no P5 home games.
If FIU was located in an area like Huntington, they'd still be FCS.
If FIU was located in an area like Huntington I would be on here bitching about folks not respecting our 1 CUSA championship in ..., in ..., in forever.
No, if FIU was located in an area like Huntington, you'd still be FCS, if you had football at all.
You'd be a 51 year old university in a city of ~50k and a decently sized small metro.
You wouldn't have 55k students, you wouldn't have a ~$175M endowment, you wouldn't have a medical school...
Being in "an area like Huntington" has nothing to do with Marshall's 1 CUSA title.
Ok, If FIU was located in Huntington, it would not be FIU but WVIU.
If FIU was located in an area like Huntington we would not be a 51 year old university because more likely than not we would have gone through a "Normal school to college to university" which would not be done in 51 years. Which means we would have had football for 100+ years and still be in a conference with Marshall & ODU & UNCC.
If FIU was located in an area like Huntington, a city of 50k, we would be the only game in town. No dolphins, canes, heat, marlins, Florida panthers. No friday night lights of St. Thomas, Booker T, Miami Central etc. We would expect our games to be well attended. FIU would be the biggest employer in the city and therefore have that loyalty.
If FIU was located in an area like Huntington, then most of our students would be from out of town. Campus would be residential. Kids will have nothing to do on weekend and weeknight and forced to sit through softball & tennis games.
We also would not have been limited in the first years of our existence to only accept students to finish their final 2 years of college because a community college didn't want to lose students. We also would not have been unable to offer graduate courses because a university did not want to lose prestige. So even though we are 51 years old, our first alums haven't much bond since this was not their first "point of college". We would not be landlocked and unable to expand to support our growing numbers because we are perceived as a threat by some.
Fortunately, FIU is not located in an area like Huntington. So we do have a medical school, a law school, and a nursing school. We do have ~$175M endowment and we are 1 of 115 R1 universities. We do have 55k students instead of a city of ~50k. We do have D1 football, a sunbelt conference title, wins over Southern Miss, UNT, WKU & MTSU. We do have a 15 year old football program and a AD that is driving away fans. MTSU in its 15th year of football was 0-2. Lost to Vanderbilt 0-69 and the powerhouse Sewanee 0-48.
So get on your soapbox, do your holier than thou act and continue the envy.
