RE: Unofficial MBB Schedule Thread
I just found out that it's not Murphy that sets the schedule but Heather. And for all those on her I want you to know that Murphy and i have agreed the past schedules were to weak to make the team better. Here is a fact Murphy wanted to play most games on the road against good D1 teams not only to make the team better but to bring revenues. But Heather has been telling him to play these stupid non D1 teams. So coach for ragging on you all these years for such a weak schedule i now know it wasn't your fault.

Indeed blaming a mid-major coach for 'bad' schedules does seem a bit naive.
I was never sure exactly how MBB and WBB schedules are handled but I KNOW how FB schedules are handled.
How do I know: Christian Spears, Dep. AD, told me that he was working on making future schedule more balanced (this was two year ago) and he (and EMU) have.
As I've (and others) have posted, scheduling mid-major MBB is a nightmare. A poor D-I school can asked for 50K+ guarantee. mid-major home and homes are best.
As high major conference schedules keep getting longer (16 -> 18 -> 20) no big school is interested in a 2 : 1 with EMU. It's kind of like "We're not interested regardless 2: 1, 3:1, 4:1). No reason for us to give you the '1').
If I were an AD would I pay 50K for Prairie View A&M? Probably not. I would opt for an NAIA school and give them 8 - 10K.
I'd rather take flak for scheduling Rochester and save the 40K, 'cause I'd also get flak for schedule Prairie View A&M.

Just found out? He had that press conference last year complaining about the lack of quality OOC home games that all but threw Lyke under the bus. We've known for a while that it isn't Murphy's scheduling.

You mean the press conference that cost him any money to finance a post season tourney?

I assume Sam was speaking of a post game with Chad which caused some consternation. Murphy was not happy about a few things including criticism of scheduling.
Yes?

If that cost him money and financing for a postseason tournament, then our athletic department ought to be incredibly ashamed of themselves. Murphy shouldn't have addressed it in that fashion, but robbing the kids of playing postseason basketball (whatever you may think of it) because the coach isn't happy with the awful home schedule is something a petulant child would do. I really don't want to believe that is the truth.

then again considering their record which included many wins against div III teams they really didn't earn the right to a post season berth

Thanks, my wife and I should be at the first home football game, should have same seats as last year on the home 50 yard line.

It's the MAC. Remember this post. MAC mandates 6 OOC games and the only way we can get six is by buying a lot of NAIA type games...

RE: Unofficial Men's Off Season Thread
This is an interesting article on MAC OOC scheduling because it has a wrinkle I never heard of before...
The requirement for at least 15 home games, i.e., 9 conference games + at least 6 OOC games.
Some weak conferences see their teams play most of their OOC games on the road and they collect the check...
Trying to get 6 D-I teams to come to Ypsi is well... challenging, to say the least.
http://www.athensmessenger.com/sports/oh...b7f5a.html
"The Mid-American Conference, as confirmed by conference commissioner Jon Steinbrecher during the MAC Tournament in March, has mandated each team in the league play 15 home games a season. Nine home games are a given with the MAC’s 18-game conference schedule, but the schools are on the hook for at least six other home dates during 12 possible non-conference games."

The NCAA should mandate that the big money conference teams play at least 1 road game at a mid/low major school. We know that will never happen though.

If that's the case then the mac should foot the bill! Because playing these naia teams is pure bull!

Why does it have to be NAIA teams??? Is it that costly to bring in a few D2 GLIAC schools. SVSU, GVSU, Wayne St, etc?
